I'm not a fan of over 16" though chris's 142 with the Simmons 18's works quite well.

140s and 164s up to 1974 are ET40 offset on their standard steel wheels (5 inch for 140; 5.5 inch for 164).

1975 164s are ET20 offset, like 240s.

It's worth noting that we didn't get the 1975 164 in Australia, we had a lot of unsold '74's in showrooms and the 264 was available before the end of '75, so they opted not to bring any '75 164's here.

The US got most of the '75's, they had quite a lot of differences to the '74 models.

@blondejay below is my mx32 cressida which is my preferred look. Low as could be with nice 14s.
144 is likely to end up similar.

If that didn't make 90, you didn't make any effort to look after it mechanically imo. I forgot how ugly they are....

@Vee_Que you could cruise it up and down the freeway at 120 it just seemed to be revving it's guts out so I more leisurely cruised in the slow lane between 90 and 100. However you are correct. At 900 bucks it was a cheap rusty cruiser that I dropped and drove for 6 months before moving it on to someone with the cash to clean her up.

That looks cool, ours had 14" Cheviot turbine style mags on it, but was standard height. Ours spent it's early life in Manly next to Sydney harbour and by about '93 it had so much rust in the A pillars that Dad was worried about it's safety, so it was sold and replaced by a '77 265GL. It was still great mechanically when sold.

When my parents advertised it in the Trading Post, they got phone calls from people wanting it every day, one guy left a deposit and didn't return, so it got sold to somebody else, and the first guy never came back to get his deposit back. They had phone calls for several weeks after it sold, from people hoping it was still available.

Oh yeah @Angus242164 the rust wouldve gotten in like nothing else around there. Mine had patches here and there and had lived near bankstown it's whole life.

I had honestly never seen one before mine came up for sale from an 85 year old bloke.

In other news, everything is in place to pick up my 144 this coming weekend. Cant wait.

@blondejay mine was 900 bucks about 5 years ago, one owner with every receipt for anything and everything done to it.

These days anywhere from 2 to 4 grand depending on condition and if they're cool in the Japanese scene that week.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The classic Japan scene is huge currentlyz though Datsun 200b are still cheap. :D

The thing is, don't think of them like a new car, they are noisier and do use more revs for higher speeds, its not abnormal to be at 3-3500rpm at 100kmh. The engineers design them for it so there is no need to freak out about it. Just for future reference.

So I left the Central Coast Saturday at 4 30 am, dropped @egads (she/her) 850R off to him in Yass. Then powered through to Dunolly, an hour west of Bendigo. Picked up my new 144. The bloke I bought it off, who mustve been nearing 50 still had his very first car, another 144! Also had what I believe he said was a 1963 230S Mercedes. What a beauty.

Anyway she's solid as a rock. For 500 bucks and a few hundred in travelling expenses I'm stoked.

@egads I'm absolutely stoked. One tiny patch of rust and 44 years of dents and scrapes. Fires up first go even though it hasn't been on the road in 3 years.
Very solid base to work from. Is there any engine mounts in the parts? I need a driver side one?

@Angus242164 it's a bloody long way from mine.

Started this arvo by refitting the front badge and removing tow bar. Slow and steady.
