I too would like to know what the go is here. I think if you get your VIN and call a Volvo dealership they can get you a fob.
My 850 R one had to go to Sydney with the control box (under the steering wheel???) to be adapted , depends on brand, the remote locking was a Aussie addition done here so different models may have been installed.
Ok I'll get the number from the control box and see what the Volvo dealership say.
Australian Cars did not have the Volvo receiver. They have an Aftermarket unit. It fails.

Some have a complete after market alarm integrated.

The simplest way is replace the receiver with a Volvo US or UK unit.
You need to replace the receiver unit under the glove box.
You can then easily get fobs and program them as per the Volvo method.

If you want an immobilizer then that is a separate relay. The receiver will trigger it. Be aware there are different ones. I can't remember which one I installed I will post back later.

I have not gone down the road of the higher spec alarm/relay or repairing the after market units.
The manufacturer of the Australian unit is no longer in businesses so I doubt you will get support from the dealer.

So the bits you need are

Receiver part no. 3545654 FCC cwt5654r
Fob part no. 3545653 fcc. CWT5653T
Are a matching set.

It also appears
Receiver part no. 9148645 fcc no.CWTTFWB1G
Fob part no. 9148646 fcc no. CWTTFWB1G

This relay will give you basic immobilizer with the dash light and arms with the fob

Receiver part no. 9148645 fcc no.CWTTFWB1G
Fob part no. 9148646 fcc no. CWTTFWB1G
Interesting, so if I just buy those two items from overseas and plug the receiver in, I get remote central locking? I should check if my 850 has some module there already.
Basically yes.
You may need a bypass relay or the alarm relay above. The higher end after market alarm plugs in where the bypass/alarm relay goes

Just a note you can program the fobs yourself.
Another note the Key code immobilizer is a different circuit and nothing to do with this system
Does the self programming stop when V70's start or are they a 97/98 v70 doable thing?
