Having trouble with my S80. Engine cut out while driving and not showing any messages or warning lights. Attached OBDII diagnostic tool and no trouble codes came up. Every time I start the car it just cuts out again. Did manage to get it started keeping my foot on the throttle to keep revs up. Got it home (about 1km up the road. This was last night and when I went out to see if it would start this morning it just kept cutting out on me. Any help here would be great please.

Hello , welcome!
Try the MAF first , unplug it.
It's near the air filter box.
It should go into default settings then and drive ok usually.
If that works the maf needs cleaned or a new one.

Lots of possibilities
You need to buy a dice unit to be able to get any data of use
Obd 2 readers will only read emissions codes which would not be set by whats happening
Off hand suspect would be to the fuel pump or fuel pump cobtroller
Maverick
Thank you for that Philia Bear, it gives me something to check. By the way would it be better for me to check fuel filter first just in case it may be blocked? Only had the car 2 months so don't know when it was changed last. Was getting everything ready to do a oil and filter service on it next weekend.

Thank you also Snoopy gives me something else to check along with the fuel pump...

Thanks Snoopy (@Ex850R), I actually had a new MAF sensor that I ordered earlier due to the emissions triangle that comes up in the bottom right of the dash display. I was able to start the car and have it running which was good and took it out for a drive to see if it would cut out again, but glad it didn't. Although the Emissions service came up in the messages and the emissions triangle in bottom right of dash was still there and now the orange triangle in centre of dash is coming up saying drive slowly emissions service urgent. So car is back in the garage until filters arrive. Can you tell me, is the cabin filter part of the emissions service? Thanks in advance for any help from anyone who reads this.

You need to clear the fault code.
No the filter for cabin isn't.
Maverick
Ok thanks Snoopy...much appreciated.

ETM pretty commonly doesn't throw codes and has symptoms like this. Do you have any history?
Maverick
No egads (@egads) I don't....

Curses! Check for the colour of the sticker on the throttle body. White generally means original and yellow generally means it has been replaced at least once. Definitely pointing towards getting it hooked up to a dice though to really diagnose. Where in Aus are you so we can point you at someone who has one?
Maverick
I don't want to seem dumb or anything but being the first Volvo I have owned I can't seem to find the throttle body unless it is under the fuse box next to the air filter (just went out with a torch and can't see too much in the dark. Will check again in daylight.)
Ex850R
It is under the inlet manifold itself , you can see the sticker. May be a white one originally, not sure but as said above, yellow is an updated one. A bloke in Melbz fixed em too.
Ex850R
BTW.
It's not dumb to ask , so many others learn from any questions asked. It means you are always learning!
Maverick
Thank you guys. Just went back out with the torch and found the throttle body with a yellow sticker on it. Is this good or bad?
Ex850R
Should be OK then !
Cannot discount it though......it is a car after all....
Getting codes read and the warnings cleared is a good idea.

I am going to do a service on it this weekend...Oil, petrol and air filters, change the oil, and check other fluids and such. Will do the code reset and the service reset when finished service. Hopefully emissions triangle will disappear as well. Going of this topic for a sec, another problem i am having is the whole car starts to shake lightly when doing 60 - 70 ks and gets worse between 80 - 100. Had rear wheels rebalanced but is still there. Any Ideas please?
Ex850R
Bung tyre/s?
Maverick
Had them checked when rebalanced, but if that is still the case it would have to be one of the rear tyres as it is not getting steering wheel shake,
Ex850R
Engine mounts or gearbox? Or other bushes?
I dunno , just thinking....
