@Vee_Que ahh yeah I forgot about the TPS, I'll update the info above later. (EDIT: post above updated)
@Angus242164 I haven't tested the Knocksense personally, and I won't knock it till I've tried it, but the way that it works from what I tell it wouldn't be very accurate. Better than nothing though! Good for a warning light to look at, but not so great for telling Megasquirt what's happening. Would love to be proven wrong on that.
Your right, being for "track only" is a very big con and I'll update the post above. (EDIT: post above updated)

I've used an APC ECU with an LED connected, and later the Knocksense unit, for visual indication only as well (though I do plan to eventually connect it to MS when the car gets it), and both perform the same, in fact I suspect the Knocksense may be reverse engineered from the APC, in a much smaller box without the other aspects of the APC system.
My experience is that when adjusted correctly, the LED will start flashing before any audible knock can be heard, ie: the LED will start to flash, and you can back off the throttle and it will stop, or you can accelerate harder and you will begin to hear the knock, so it does give you a bit of warning that you wouldn't otherwise have.
I've never seen it falsely trigger the LED, the only thing along those lines was once cruising on a long trip at night, and it flashed once which seemed really odd, then a couple more times, I then realised the temp gauge was pegged, and there wasn't a drop of coolant left in the system, due to a split hose.

OK it sounds very useful. Is that with the earlier resonant knock sensor or the later donut style? Did you have to adjust it often, or once you feel like you had it right it you were able to leave it? I was considering trying a knocksense but then read a few too many bad reviews, so I started developing my own using the TPIC8101 IC. I got a prototype working quite well but lost steam around the same time I realised that the MS3 Knock Module used the same IC.

It uses the Bosch 001/006 sensor:

With the APC ECU, it would have been tuned to a Saab block, so from (hazy) memory, I had to slightly tweak a tuning pot to get it to work well, but I only had to do that once.
With the Knocksense, the guy who makes them is a Volvo guy, so he presets them to suit a redblock, or if you have another engine he can set it to be roughly correct, based on his own knowledge I guess. I didn't have to make any adjustments to mine, I just told him it was for a B230, and it performed on par with the APC.
I don't know what components it uses, i should pop the cover off mine at some stage and look at the board.

I ran the apc system for eons
Really good setup and just works
It also is nice that it fails to the wg setting if anything goes wrong
I used to have a switch for it so when I handed the car over to others it would only run 5psi instead of 15psi
A_Volvo_Driver
Is the costs/effort involved worth switching from k-jet?
user48736353002
@A_Volvo_Driver I guess it depends on what your plans for the motor are, but I have very little experience with K-Jet sorry. From what I gather, the good news is that you'll find plenty of the parts you need at the wrecking yards.
Vee_Que
Yes, considering the cost of new webera, itbs with efi is easier.
A_Volvo_Driver
Something to think about then, cheers. Like Alex said above, I was originally thinking of ditching the k-jet for carbs, but the EFI/MS option might be better.

im all for MS3x, i (like mentioned have a lack in confidence in my soldering ability)
i almost purchased a prebuilt ms3x with daughter board for $700aud, + both looms $90. was a great deal. how ever i bought a 142 which i was hunting for a period of time.
if pricing is similar, i could only see great success.
user48736353002
Was that new or used? The MS3x (MS3 CPU and MS3X expansion board installed) from DIYAUTOTUNE is $1000 AUD delivered with today's exchange rate. The MS3X expansion gives you extra inputs and outputs allowing you to run full sequential injection and a separate coil for each cylinder on engines up to a 8 Cylinder. Without the MS3X expansion you need to run the injectors in banks (up to 2) but with a 4 cylinder you can still do away with the distributor with a wasted spark coil setup. The MS3x expansion can be added later to a MS3.

Correct. The unit was all new completly assembled, ready to be adapted into my 740

What year was that @blondejay?
deleted_user_160
year?
my wagon is 89 - LH2.2 (stretched beyond its limits) ;P
pauljloz
Starting to get curious again about
frankencis.com and microsquirt on the b23e .....
user48736353002
@jaybee sorry I meant what year did you get the price of $700 aud for a MS3x. AUD to USD change in last few years has driven up cost of Megasquirt stuff from the US.
user48736353002
@pauljloz Have you got any pricing on what's needed to run the frankencis?
Rallybomb
I am interested.
I have just ordered my High compression pistons to convert my standard Turbo to a +T. But it looks like there are no reliable chips available now to tune it right. It's a slow moving project I probably will not have the car running for another 6 months. I would be happy to share any data files or settings I find work well.
Has there been any developments?
Thanks
Pail
