I'm running 16x8" front with an offset of ET5 on my 245. Depending on the tyre size this can get pretty close to the strut tube. I've tried 205 and 225 fronts and these both clear (225 just though). I have put together some DIY front coilovers that run a much smaller spring to give more room on the inside. No idea what clears the stock spring perch. On the back I have 16x8.5" with an offset of -2 and 225 tyres (nice and square on 8.5" wheel). I've rolled the lip very flat and have an adjustable panhard bar to keep things centred. I have tall 225/55 tyres too but I'm tempted to go with nicer 225/50 size next.

I've seen a lot of 240s with tyre width in the 245 range on Turbobricks. Too much for me as I like 225 for predictable wet skids on the way home from work.

I haven't heard of this before, I thought all 200 series had a 1350mm rear track, assuming the standard steel or alloy 14" rims are fitted.

Ok this is part of what I find confusing...
I thought that I would have to have an ET of 25 ( or 20 still not sure ) on a rear wheel drive 240 and not any other ET number without using spacers ( that are illegal in NSW I believe ) to make the suspension and geometry bits happy but then Gingernija says his offset -2 and 5 ,???.
I thought that would bring the wheel too close to the inner "bits" of the suspension etc. and interfere and rub on the "bits. " .
If the ET is say 40 then have to run with spacers but if it's less than 25 ( or 20 ) then.......... then what??

Just get wheels with the right offset so you don't need any spacers. ET0 is further out from the inside than ET25. Have a look at a few wheel offset calculators on the net.

I'll try to get a photo of my wagon on the hoist tomorrow to show the tight fit near the strut tubes.

thepacman I can't find any photos from back then sorry. Both my cars have 16 x 8" front wheels and offsets are ET5 and ET12 (or 10) from memory. The ET5 wheels have a 225/50/16 tyre and the ET12 ones are 215/55/16 I think. Both cars have modified front struts though, not the original springs and perches.

I have a 225x15x60 tyre fitted to the rear of my 88 wagon, the arches will need rolling though by the looks as the mid lower part of the arch looks to be very close to the tyre.

Fitted to a 15 x 8 steel rim, car is slightly lowered on kings springs.

I'm hoping to get it out of storage this weekend I will let you know, they were a BCI made wheel I think from memory, but will get some details for you this weekend.

i was on the lookout for some wide steel wheels and was looking down the path of getting some made up. However a set of staggered BCI or ROH wheels turned up on facebook and after procrastinating over them i jumped on them and threw on a set of tyres.

They needed a respray as the black coating on them was pretty crap, went for a honda silver/grey.

In my old sedan I ran 17x8 +0 offset wheels with 225/45R17 tyres. The fronts poked super bad before I got coilovers up front and lowered the ride height, meaning the negative camber brought the tops of the tyres in. Image description

Hey all just wanted to say thanks for all your help, this is the set up I have gone with for now.

Set of 19x8.5 Work Emotion T7Rs. Wrapped in 245/35/19 tyres.

It has required rolling the guards, especially because the lip on the inside of the guards is about 20mm.

The wheels are a +45 ET so that required 25mm high centric Spacers to clear everything, with the height that I have the car, there is about 3mm clearance in the rear. So I'm glad my math checked out.

I would have preferred maybe 18in wheels and ran a 245/40/18 tyre to have a bit more sidewall, but these came up very cheap so I'm still super happy with the set up and this is more than enough allowance to do the XC90 brake kit now.

Once the handling is complete I can continue with the Audi 1.8t 20v /, RX8 6sp manual conversion that is sitting on the engine stand.
