Here's the full story...
The Light Car Club of Canberra ran their own stand alone event using the CCC rules. They only got 10 entries, which turned into 9 starters.
The blue Integra was clearly the pace setter, with a qualifying time 1.45 seconds better than ours (and we were second!).
The B Team in the Laser was 3rd, another 0.5 seconds adrift.
Then the race started.
We managed to stay vaguely in touch with the Integra for a while, but it was clearly getting away.
Then they broke a wheel, and had a bit of a freak out about a wheel stud with a shitty thread, and dropped 8 laps.
So we inherited the lead.
The Laser had lost a bunch of time with a shredded tyre, and the Mirage in second place was uncomfortably close to us.
The last stint before lunch was a bit interesting. We were in the lead by 1.99 laps, but we were worried that if we went over the 15 minutes, we'd get a one lap penalty - and then at the restart the 0.99 lap lead would turn into 0.01 lap lead.
It worked out fine - firstly, we didn't go over 15 minutes, and because Pete got the Volvo past the Mirage, to be another lap up.
Lots of pressure at the lunch break - we had everything to lose, basically. The Mirage was still within stalking distance, and the Integra was making a charge and was back up to 4th.
After lunch the Integra broke another wheel and DNFed. We gradually pulled away from the Mirage and ended up winning by five laps.
The Laser clawed back up to 3rd, which is its best result. They had their own excitement when they finished on the same lap as the 4th place car, but knew they'd got two laps worth of penalties. But it turned out that 4th place had 4 laps worth of penalties so it worked out ok for the Laser team.
