May I ask one last question; what makes everyone on this forum lean towards a Volvo? Nostalgia, Safety, Reliability, Can go on forever Almost? :)

I'm wondering whether there is much difference between 2011 and 2012 models, although I would the prefer the 2012 model I suppose as it's similarly priced for some strange reason.
I did see one with a tow bar, so I'm not sure whether I should ride it off all together, or keep it on the list.
These are also the cars I'm looking at as well:-

blood.

Keep an eye on the auctions Manheim etc. Buying is better , much better than dealer price gouge.

I've just put through interest on the four advertisements, and I'm getting hounded :)
I'll let you know how it all goes over the weekend!!!
sucksqueezebangblow
thats because they are dealers. buy privately.
Ex850R
Buy private. Any wty they offer is rubbish . Get from auction , big savings and any issue you pay , still ahead!
Vee_Que
I disagree, warrenty on these cars are worth it in Vic, you can be covered under laws a lot easier. Not worth the risk imo.

I know it may be more but I'm really after some warranty in case I get handed a lemon :)
How many km do you think the xc90 can last with regular maintenance? I'm trying to factor in the costs like tyres, and the servicing, even though I would only do up to 10-15,000km at present. I dare say that I would be travelling a lot more once I have my XC90 :)
How do you think the XC90 may compare to the Kluger (Toyota) in general?
Ex850R
Get the Kluger after having your soul removed for donation.

Snoopy, what do you mean exactly as I'm not on the uptake :)
bumperplates
Did you mean that I would spend a fortune maintaining the XC90?
Philia_Bear
He is saying the kluger is a boring car
XC90's can last 500,000KM without much issue
Plenty of them around the USA with > 300,000 miles
Find a used one with under 100k on the clock and has never had a tow bar on it
bumperplates
Lovely!!!
If I do find one that has a tow bar, then does that mean the engine/transmission is sunk? What should I be asking them?
Chris
It means the transmission will have been under more strain and so may have a shorter life.
Not much point asking the dealers anything. They will tell you how great the car is, when they actually have no personal knowledge about the car's history at all. If it is a Volvo dealer and the car was serviced by them you might be able to get something out of the service department, maybe.
If the car has previous owner details and they are clear enough that you can actually use them, and often they don't, then talk to the previous owner. As you are pretty new to all this, insist on being able to take the one you want to an independent to be checked (e.g. Berry, Voldat, Mason's). It will mean you taking half a day off work to do this, but it is well worth it.
It might also mean signing a purchase contract, but with a clause added by you to the effect of "subject to purchaser's approval of report conducted by (insert name of independent)". If they won't agree to taking the car to an independent walk away.

t purchased the car, a Volvo XC 90 D5 R-Design Wagon 7st 5dr Geartronic 6sp 4x4 2.4DT [MY13], with 82893 KM, for $39,500 and put subject to test drive and subject to independent inspection on the contract.

You guys think I did well? They also offered an extension to Volvo manufacturer warranty.
Do you guys think it's worth it ($2800) for the extra 4 years?
Vee_Que
I do. They can fail on a gearbox, more reason to service at a workshop though, the warrenty will say what will viod it. First is not enough services at a certified place.
Volvotech
Make sure its manufacturer extension because any Dealership warranty is a crock of shit!!!! It makes them extra money. Don't be pushed into extras by their aftersales team because they get a % !!!
Volvotech
Sounds like a nice car
