It’s been a long time everyone! I hope you’re all well!!
I’ve been enjoying my V8 so much that my tyres need replacing! I didn’t realise it but they are almost bald!
Any recommendations for long lasting, quiet, and good overall tyres that won’t break my poor piggy bank?
Yokohama? Continental? Bridgestone? Pirelli?
What are your thoughts?
kyril
I fitted some kuhmos on the front of my v8 that have now done 30k and probably have at least that left in them. Nice and quiet. Very happy with them and was able to get them for 250 a tyre.

Thanks for the recommendation! Which one exactly?
The tyres that I have right now are Michelin Latitude Sport A0 255/45 R 20 101W, and they seem noisy and wear out fast!!

Kuhmo solus 255/50r19 are the actual tyres.
Never really been a fan of good year tea after a shocking set on one of my early cars!
I've had two sets of Hankooks on my other car and am very happy with them but at the time didn't have Hankooks in the size with the correct load rating
bumperplates
Hmm I can see that my tyres are a bit bigger and wider.
What size should I be after? Can I drop it down without affecting anything so I can look at a bigger range of tyres?
kyril
You've got the 20inch rims so unless you change rim size you can't really reduce the size of your tyres.
Looking at the way it works you have the same rolling diameter as me, 1 inch bigger wheels but 45 profile as opposed to 50 for me. So I have a bigger sidewall on the tyres. Just meant they didn't have to do any adjustments on Speedo to get same reading.
Youcould ask around on here to see if someone wants to do a swap to the 19 but if you like you 20inch then you may be limited to your tyre selection. The 19s run pretty nice with that little extra bit of sidewall.

Damn indeed! I went down from the 21 inch to the 20 inch when I withdrew my first purchase.!!
I found a good price for Goodyear Excellence tyres. I’ll report back and let you know the feel as the reviews say that some people get 50,000km out of them.

Any updates on the Tyres for the xc90’s? Still very happy with mine, when my wife lets me drive it, but looking at new tyres soon wanting to know what others are running / happy with. When purchased it came with General Grabbers GT’s 255/50R19 and I’ve been very happy except the sidewalls look to almost perish/crack & chip. Considering the weight of the MY14 XC90 they havnt worn to bad.

Moojie! Good to hear from you! The tyres are looking very good and I prefer them over the previous Michelin ones that were on the XC90. I’m taking it next week for the 5,000km check so I’ll report back as soon as I find out if things are looking good. I’ll also post the exact brand if anyone needs it.
In other news, I may have miscalculated my monthly mileage on the XC90 V8 and finding it quite thirsty (ouch to my wallet)! Any ideas on optimising fuel usage :)

Take off easy , that big lurch getting it going is sucking the juice!

I’ve done some calculations based on the number of KM’s since I’ve had the XC90 from June 2016 and I’ve racked up around 31,367km. I did one big trip which was around 3000-3500km or so, and then quite a few longer trips over the warmer months to the beach which is usually a 200km turn around for each trip. I spend around $50-70 per week on fuel if all goes according to plan.

Sounds cheap to run then!
Really , The Pom would drive his missus V8 XC90 and get figures below 10 , the missus , mid teens....

Here's my stats for my V8XC90 (kept using the acar app):
Time: 1 year 8months
Distance: 37480km
Fuel used: 2935.21 litres
AVG L/100km: 12.4
Max L/100km: 16.2
Min L/100km: 10.3
AVG litres/fill: 62
AVG km/fill:500
It is interesting to note that the dashboard indicated average consumption is around a little more optimistic than the actual consumption calculated from measured fuel in over/odometer to the tune of around .5 to nearly 1 litre/100km
But overall I can't fault the consumption of my '90. For what it is, it gives better consumption than a territory, Kluger and all the other similar big 4wd cars whilst being an (in my opinion) infinitly better car to drive.
Just my two cents. And thought people would like to see some real long term fuel use figures.
Ex850R
Yeah, I love the figures! Good on you being concise!
I'd love a 90V8 too...

@kyril Which app are you using to monitor fuel consumption so I do the same as well? I had a look at the fuelly site and couldn’t understand why other SUVs had lower consumption.
kyril
I have an app called acar. But it is associated with fuelly now.

Your average and mine are pretty much identical,

@Philia_Bear good to see you on this thread!
kyril
Yeah @Philia_Bear I think that in general the V8 is a very consistent engine in terms of its fuel use. My figures include the seasonal wood trips 7x5 trailer loads of red gum. The annual fully loaded to to Bathurst trip. I drive 40km to work each day with 25 km of that freeway. So it gets a good run.
Best consumption I got was Blaney to Bendigo on a tank one passenger and luggage. About 700 km
