I'm fed up with my rda rotors on my 740t, slotted, bought on special yes, but they and the set i had on my 760, which were a lot thinner (running 940 discs and calipers), both warped pretty early and you can't get rid of the warp. I've fitted the dimpled and slotted rotors to my mums Peugeot 307hdi, and normal ones to multiple cars now, they do ok, even with ebc ultimate pads, but the pads are not great for a downhill run either.
I fitted ates years ago to the 760 but I haven't found a direct supplier of rotors online that I can just click and go.
So, I'm looking at DBA, bremax and Bosch, both easily available to buy on eBay, my preferred method. Anyone had experience with either on volvos? I can find some vague threads on a skyline forum saying how the rda rotors shattered, and the dba t2 lasted.
This isn't just to replace the rotors on my car, it would be good to see a general feedback thread on rotors.
So in my experience.
Slotted rdas, when driving hard - warp easily.
Dimpled and slotted rdas - start noisy and then quieten down on a road going car used for commuting.
Standard rda rotors - don't seem to warp with harder driving, but they do rust and wear a lot quicker than original rotors.

850 stuff just fits inc 302mm
You could probobly get ash to do the most minor of mods to his 320mm kit to make it work on a 7/9 as well
320mm with slotted rotors would be quite win for brakes on a 7/9
Otherwise
Im looking at a modified fron suspension design to use p1 bits with a new spindle assembly to allow for a huge choice of coilovers and 336mm xc90 brakes
Also to raise the spindle relative to the lower controll arms

I had DBA 4000xs slotted and drilled on the falc, no shudder issues and looked nice.
I have DBA T2 slotted on the V50 and they look nice but I get a vibe stopping quickly from 100kph. It could be caused by one of my bearings which needs replacing. I'll report back once it's fixed

That's perfect mike! I have access to c70 calipers and everything. :D
Why not convert to s90 front end? Or do you mean like the pois setup?
Anyway, rotors still need to be sorted.

i worked for a Volvo dealership in the early nineties and brake shudder was a major problem with 7 series Volvo's. We would often convert to the "jumbo brakes if customers had on going issues. I think the wider disc helped.
I use genuine brembo in my workshop, they are amazingly well priced and I don't have issues.
I wouldn't buy brake parts off eBay, so much difference in quality.
Slotted rotors are, really only an advantage for track use,
As a matter of interest when rotors were replaced under warranty we had to measure the runout of the rotor on all five possible positions.

I drive the car pretty Hard, tow heavy loads etc. I already have jumbo brakes on the 740 and its just the shite rda rotors. Will be going greenstuff pads this time.
Can you recommend a wholesaler for brembo?
nickm
What Pads are you running?
robv
My supplier up here is The Brake Warehouse.

I want brembo for P80 too.
Does Voldat have em?

There's some interesting things happening with RDA.
You'll have noticed that in recent(ish) times that RDA brake packaging is co-branded as EBC.
The website carries 'RDA EBC Brakes' branding too.
The 'dimpled and slotted' pattern that used to be an EBC rotor, made in England, is now available in an 'RDA EBC Brakes' branded box at quite a different (cheaper) price point.
I'm curious as to where they're made and the actual product differences.
It would be good to take a look at them side by side.
I've heard good things about the DBA T3 product range and we offer Brembo, ATE, Bosch and Textar.

I had Project Mu ns400 on the xr6t and they had good bite without too much dust. I might replace the textars with ns400 as the textars seem super dusty

They would be the ones I have on mums 307, they are different to the standard rda, but I'm still skeptical for harder use that I will put my car through.
Nick - seems I didn't say it, currently ebc ultimate/blackstuff, good for a grocery getter, but even on the subaru impreza they faded on a long hill where engine braking wasn't an option. Used the older ceramic pbr I think it was on the wagon before and wasn't that happy with them really. So greenstuff it is again, can't justify the cost of mu pads for a mostly daily.
The dba t3 is the one up from the basic one, the range that is relatively limited? Can't even get them for a vw golf that I need to for my brother.

Try some Porterfield R4s compound pads.Havent had them on a 740 but on a Jag they are magic.
U can order direct.

Definitely warped not deposits from the pads?
I've been running the Akebono pads on both Volvos. No dust and high resistance to fade. But not a racing pad.
Ex850R
You either get very dirty track type or disc warping hard ones that never wear , or stop you so well.
Any in between that don't cost the earth?
I used to get second hand ones from the wrecker to suit my AlfaSuds , anything really , it stopped like a magnetic force was applied so didn't matter...)

Yes. Remember, I am a mechanic, I deal with stuff like this all the time and I wash the car often and the dust off. Definitely warped, like, massive runout warped. I even rotated the pads around for fun to even up the wear. What rotors do you use with the akebonos?
No dust for me, means longer stopping distances. Just won't use the rdas again.
Wondering about the 305mm rotor from an s80, could it be worth it?

Interesting thread.
I've use DBE686 rotors with Greenstuff pads and found the discs scored very easily. No shuddering though.
Looking for replacement disc's at present and see Bosch have two models for a 740 Turbo. DBE686 - $118 and BD324 - $194. Specs appear the same but cannot work out reason for the price difference.
Just as an aside, I've used RDA disc's on my work Falcon ute and after 3 years no dramas what so ever.
Vee_Que
There are two 740 types, the early has the hub with the rotor. If you look on eBay there are the images of the different types.
1uzvolvo
I'll try that again. PBR686 (not DBE686) and BD324. Both are for the same year, make model and the specs are the same. 287mm dia, 22mm thickness, etc, etc. Both Bosch brand but $80 difference.

I've had great success with ate powerslot rotors or whatever they're called now. Also ebc reds seem good. First stop is meh then they just work. I've beat the living piss out of them relentlessly & they just work. No warp or fade.
I'm particularly anal about wheel nut torque which has proven to help with warp. This is on a 242 not a 7 series mind you...
