So I got this Bosch AL157X 80A alternator but I don't like the fitment for a B21 so I think I'm going to sell it and find a 55A alternator with internal voltage regulator instead.

Ive fit a 940 Denso to my B23. Its pretty compact but I would say for a period correct build would look a bit out of place.

Okay all the tar is removed. I've since keyed the paint with 400 grit, there's a few holes from screws that have been deleted and a part of me is tempted to weld them up but I think I will just put caps over them so it looks tidy.

I need to go to the paint shop and get some white base coat and another can of Saab Monte Carlo yellow.

Oil cooler hardlines done, except for the end that goes to the block, I've left that un-terminated for now, want to drop the block in before finalising.

I'm really happy with these, they have come out great!

The pipe that looks like it hangs below the car - this is a perspective issue, it sits slightly higher than the rad support and fits inside the sump guard.

Okie dokie started fixing up the upper firewall. I'm just using rattle can high fill to sort out the defects, once it's good I'll put a drop sheet over the whole car and break out the spray gun and lay down some white followed by the yellow.

I also made up the harness, I decided to integrate the AC wiring into it to tidy everything up a bit. There's a bit more work to do before it's ready but this is basically the whole thing

Looking again this morning I noticed some defects that looked suspicious, sure enough I found rust underneath. There are the spots where those clips that hold the wiring loom sit. In any case it was very minor and is now ground back and im currently priming again.

I'll block the paint down later today and then use probably a fine feather putty to deal with the scratches in the paint. Ideally I'd take it back to metal and build it back up but that is extremely messy and time-consuming and I don't want to scope-creep any more as I am trying to get the car back on the road before the pink slip grace period expires.

It's metric. I forget, my greenbook specifies the wire cross sectional area and I just ordered wires to that spec. Most of it is TXL automotive wire.

I use this one (I forget if it included the correct dies or if I had to buy them separately, but it all came from Jaycar)

I like this crimper, it produces very nice crimps with high repeatability.

My experience has been that choosing a good quality, strong terminal is what leads to good clean repeatable crimps, some of the cheaper terminals made from thinner metal, they bend and deform when crimping.

I buy all my terminals and insulation from RS Components

I've got the same crimper and found it pretty good. Does require a bit of messing around with some terminals where the wire crimp and the stain releif crimp dont match any of the wire/stain releif combo crimp dies jaycar sells. I have been meaning to look up what other dies are out there that may be compatible.

Well don't it always go you get so close and then put a run in your topcoat ? so I had to sand the run out and redo the last few coats. High fill primer, 220, gloss white, 220, gloss white, 320, two more gloss white then 4 coats of yellow about 6 minutes between coats.

Still waiting on some terminals to complete the loom. Some parts from VP Auto should show up tomorrow too. I have in the meantime been cleaning up and repainting bits and pieces. I've also put hood liner in the bonnet, mostly for aesthetic reasons.

The creases I think will disappear when I remove the backing paper and actually tape them down, atm I've just test fit. As you can see I haven't finished the last panel yet, or the centre circle.

Some more stuff arrived today, got most of the wiring loom sorted now, just need a couple of ring terminals for the grounds. The K-Jet system relay also turned up so I will sit down tomorrow and work out how to rearrange my older-style dual relay setup to work for the green KJet relay. I'll have to redo the coil signal wiring but otherwise I dunno should be pretty straightforward.

I got this far and then an on-call incident happened and I had to quickly mount the engine back on the stand and go deal with that for five hours.

I think I have to call it at this point that Amy won't make it to Nationals ? it's going in for an exhaust in late March and I won't be able to run the car until after the exhaust is fitted. Then it needs a blue slip as the rego grace period will expire on like March 16. If you haven't been through the club rego system before, five days is not a chance in hell of getting the paperwork sorted for renewal, it's all done by post, very archaic.

Test fit ?

I also remade one of the oil cooler lines as I wasn't happy with the first one, I used too much pressure with the pipe straightener and it deformed the pipe a bit at one end. Luckily I had enough leftover tube to make a replacement.

Anyway, this is quickly getting exciting.
