A new dash speaker for the 244 arrived today. I kept the original speaker and brackets when I stripped the car down back in 2014 but never mounted it - only mounting a pair of 6x9s on the parcel shelf.
They sound great (they're the
Jaycar Kevlar ones), I'm very happy with the overall EQ, but having the sound coming only from the rear is annoying, as you have to turn it up quite loud on the highway, and if you have passengers in the back they hear it very loudly.
So I finally settled on a 4x8 to go in the dash centre speaker position, a RetroSound R-48N, which has a really nice feature in that its a dual coil speakers, meaning it takes both a left and a right channel, and saves me having to create a passive crossover. Because I don't have anything else on the front speaker channels, I don't need to do anything fancy, I can just use the fader to adjust the relative volumes.
The original dash speaker was more like a 4x6 but had plenty of space around it in the bracket, so this one will hopefully fit without too much hassle. We will see.
