How did they die? I dont want no engine that has blown up before :|
My money is on he was unbolting them from the crank with the motor upside down and they fell out and cracked on the ground.

Close

Had them lined up with the rods and 2 fell off the cart
Bores look brand new after a quick polish last night

It was Iirc a c and a d piston so easy to get replacements
Thats ok then! I was thinking more you turned the boost up heaps and asploded it!

I'd love to see a T6 for sure. If you're going to all that trouble to swap in a white block, might as well have extra displacement so you don't have to beat on it so hard.
Thats the plan. Also I felt a little bad raining on Julians parade being the first one to show interest in doing a T5 swap. If I do a 6 and he does a 5 then we have one of each!
Hahaha
Dont feel bad for me!!
My plan is to pop a few 5cyls, 1x N-Series motor, 1x RN and then maybe a 6 cylinder to mix it up

I never gave the 6 cylinders any thought because it HAD to be a T5 for me, didnt have my R at thr time and Karl was selling his own personal swap kit to recuperate costs

So fast forward almost more than a year and the T6 is finally sitting in my garage.

Fixed for accuracy
True. I do have two of them sitting in my garage. Should build a V12 out of them!

Look forward to seeing this progress...

Over the past month ive focused on cleaning up the interior. The car has sat closed up in my garage since we moved into our new house in 2017. As you can imagine the interior has gotten musty and gross so I stripped it all out, cleaned, dynamatted and have started reassembling.

Alot of stuff is missing and I didnt realise I didnt even have a dash assembly as it was donated to the 245 2 years ago. Thanks to a helpful young dude not far from me I was able to pull out an entire dash assembly to replace the one missing from my car.

Ive also pulled all the engine bay wiring into the cabin in preparation for feeding it through the front passenger kickpanel to tuck the wiring in the guard. Ive also removed most of the dodgy and added wiring that was jerry rigged over the years. Its a very slow and tedious job but it will be worthwhile I think when im not chasing old problems with the new setup.

If you have any Dynamat left, I found putting a maybe 20x20cm square on the outer skin of the doors, right behind the speakers, does a heap for responsiveness

I do have some left! The next job before putting the door cards back on is to service the power windows as they havent moved in 5 years. Ill remember that and put some matting behind the speakers.

Plugged away some more at the interior. Just putting everything back in its stock location as a base. Going down to Bunnings now to get the nylon washers for the power window regs and might have time to fit the front door cards. That bag of wires are the engine bay wires that will remain inside until after I paint and the engine bay.

I heard chipping away at something is better than plugging away so maybe try that? Haha

Im happy to try both methods. Although ive heard sometimes its better to plug away than chip away and vise versa. Although sometimes I feel like doing neither and would prefer to just run away.

Good to see a reusable shopping bag being, well, reused!

Is that a wheel centre cap being used as a window winder hole plug in the rear door trim? Excellent and creative idea! :)

Looking good! Nice to see this project progressing.

Did more interior work today. Replaced the broken window reg washers with some nylon ones I got from Bunnings. They are a tad too thick to be used on both sides of the pin and think if I had to I could have sanded them down to fit. I ended up being able to put a new one on each and an old one on each and that looks to work ok.

The dynamat I ordered looks to be taking a while to arrive so I went ahead and fitted the new door cards I got from Paul ages ago. Then I doused the entire interior in Megs interior clean and got rid of the dirt and mould that had grown on the dash and door cards. Then I soaked everything in Autoglym vinyl and rubber care and let it evaporate over an hour and it looks like magic now.

I'll revisit the dynamat in the doors when it arrives and after I've picked out some speakers for the front doors so I only have to take them apart one more time. Right now I'm happy to fit everything so I can make sure everything fits well and that I've got all the fasteners I need.
