I'm trying to get Nina's 244 to run all good like on the new ECU and engine, but it's on struggle street. I'm uploading a video at the moment, will update when it's ready. The bit where it sounds like it's on 3 cylinders is odd.
Known facts:
- Tried two AMMs, no effect
- Tried two ECTs, no effect
- No codes being reported by computers
- Compression acceptable (I think) at ~130psi (cold)
- Strobe reveals spark timing is correct
- Have on one or two occasions managed to get it to rev up. Also got enough power out of it the other day to get it up the driveway
- Fuel pump was working fine with the old motor
- Injectors came from a V70T5, high impedance about 315cc I think.
@Philia_Bear suggests measuring resistance across the ECT wires at the ECU plug, that's on my to-do list

I have been scouring the wiring diagrams and I am now wondering if the main fuel pump is being powered. I can hear something priming, but perhaps it is just the lift pump. IIRC I put the fuel pump wiring to fuse #5, but from the wiring diagrams I should be running it to both fuse #5 and fuse #7. I'll check in the morning.

The thing that I find confusing on that diagram though is that it makes out like fuse 7 is constantly powered (direct +12V from battery). Dafuuuuuuq

The other fuses powered by the same feed contain items like clock and central locking which would have constant feed. Perhaps fuse 7 is a feed for a fuel pump relay, not direct to pump?
jamesinc
Okay I ruled out the fuel pump wiring. I rewired it direct to the old relay output but no dice. I also tried some ether and it didn't seem to help either. I guess that leaves spark...

firing order?
jamesinc
Firing order is set correctly. I swapped out the fuel pressure regulator and it runs a bit better, but still by no means smooth.
jamesinc
Okay so I did a boost leak test, and found the cold side of the turbo has a threaded hole in it. Wtf is that about. I put an M6 bolt in it to seal it. Car still runs like crap.
I got it around the block. It has no power up to about 3 grand, then it starts to get a bit of power. Thoughts?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?
nickm
As Mike said check your grounds at the ecu
And are all the injectors firing? Pull one by one
Try putting a bit of ether in there to see if the idle increases.
If it does suspect I would suspect fuel not spark.
jamesinc
- Ether has no effect
- Injectors are all firing in so far as if I pull the plugs, all four cylinders puff fuel vapour. I haven't looked at the spray pattern yet.
- I swapped the FPR with a different FPR, no change
- I did play around with wiring, adding additional ground points etc, no change there either
- The 1000th time I looked at the timing I decided the cam gear was off by one tooth, so I reset it and that also didn't do much to help
I think the whole three cylinders issue I was reporting was partly due to flooding. Once you get it revving it smooths out.
jamesinc
I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. Does anyone around Sydney have one?
nickm
Injectors all fire at the same time. If one is not firing you will still see fuel.
Like a spark plug - disconnect each individual injector and see if things change or stay the same.
jamesinc
Alrighty I'll test each injector tomorrow night

130psi is quite low! my car when warm is about 150psi as is another 740t I work on.
Slowbrick
130psi is low but not the end of the world. Did you end up wiring up the speed signal from the diff? What I would be doing is unplugging the speedo. Then unplug everything except the CTS. I would even go as far as removing the plumbing from the idle valve and blocking the holes. Then remove the power then reconnect.
This will give you the most basic operating mode and if nothing else is fuct it should start, idle sorta ok and rev. This is how the 245 was when we first started it.
Slowbrick
This is the very first time we started the B23ET after the LH 2.4 conversion. This is the actual first start and if i remember the only thing I had plugged in was the CTS and knock sense.
jamesinc
I'll try that. It does have the speed signal hooked up. I've disconnected most things, don't think I've disconnected everything but CPS though
