Its been a while but I have some updates! Got a passenger seat in! This particular seat is a WRX Gc8 'leather' seat purchased for $20 in average condition. It had some pretty worn suede inserts. Fitting it into the car was a decent job!
This is what the bottom of the subaru seat looked like!
...and this was what was left of the former Volvo seat. The width of the rails differed quite significantly.
With the help of my dad, we welded on two steel pieces with the intent of making them brackets, to the bottom of the seat.
Painted the brackets black and drilled some holes. As you may notice, the holes are not centred. This is to accommodate for the offset positioning of the seat on the rails which I noticed in the drivers side.
Mounted!!! Subaru cream leather seat on top of subaru rails (still adjustable) on top of volvo rails (still adjustable as well). As a result, the seat sits a little bit high, but nonetheless, for 20 bucks I think its alright for now. I really hope it passes blue slip/rego. I removed the subaru seat belt buckle because the car still had the volvo buckle and belt.
From this angle you can see that the new seat sits higher than the driver side one. It is also far 'sportier', so my passengers should consider themselves lucky!
in other news, my mate and I tried to fix the horn, as it was beeping sporadically when we turned the wheel. We figured it was grounding itself somewhere inside the hub. So we pulled everything off and would ya look at what we found:
Cracked to shit! I'm not sure if this part is part of the autotecnica boss kit or if that part of the steering mechanism is Volvo, but my mate is sure it is from the boss kit. If so, I was thinking of one of the Momo ones of eBay, would anyone recommend them?

We put masking tape all over the steering internals up to that point to try and prevent grounding, but nothing worked, so we're putting it down to a faulty boss kit.
We had a go at fixing the non working clock but didn't get too far due to time restraints.

hella sharp tone horns from India. Took some modification to get them sitting in their current positions. Fun job.
This happened after my mate and I went to supercheap to get some bits and pieces and my mate saw the cheap pod filters.
At the moment its probably reducing the amount of power the engine is putting out. To fix this, plans are to build an enclosure for the filter in order to keep it away from the engine belts and build some DIY ducts to get cold air into it (also to keep it legal).
We removed the factory airbox and the pre-heater hose because it was very broken and in our climate we don't really need it. Filter wasn't too bad.
There have also been some electronics issues, as when the car was off with no key in the ignition, the park brake lights, the interior lights and the small front lights were all on, draining the battery. This means that somewhere is shorting out, so I need to get an auto-electrician to have a look.
Took the car for a quick drive down the street and did a dodgy slalom test. Results are in: new shocks and struts imminent. It was like being on a tinny in the middle of the ocean during a storm. I am going to save and get coilovers from dvs or kalphenke, what ever is cheaper/better.
Apart from a vacuum, thats what I've gotten up to this weekend!
