Tigabu See Tracey's solution (possumbillytea's) in the troubleshooting section @volvodriverman and @irishbastard
irishbastard Except my Volvo 740 gl has the same problem as the 240, and my other Volvo 740 HP has the same as @volvodriverman , I think the purring sound is or could possibly be a worn turbo charger, and thanks @Tigabu , ill look into it :)
volvodriverman Main pump fuse was blown but still shorting across, replaced it & its a bit happier, methinks its fuel pump time.

I bet it's idle control valve hoses.
volvodriverman Got a new relay somewhere & will be replacing all the hoses soon. It feels lean to me but without a wideband (which is coming) I'm only guessing.
irishbastard Ok awesome, thanks @Vee_Que ill replace the control valve hoses and hope that helps, and I'll try the In tank fuel pump, it could be an issue I think @volvodriverman
Vee_Que They normally run quite rich too assuming they have good injectors in them. Hoses are impossible to buy as I found. I bet the other vacuum hoses will be average too. But unless I see the car in person I am only diagnosing off what you tell me not what it can really be
irishbastard I'm taking the car to the march 30 th club event so ill probably show you the problem their if you want, have you managed to get your black 760 sedan ready intime for the event ;) @Vee_Que
