Did a search and sifted through 6 or so pages of people saying they'd "chip in" to buy something or other in various posts without finding anything particularly relevant- darn aussie slang.
The question I pose is this: are there any people running the oh-so-popular chips from turbobricks in the style of "the lost art of" or Freds Chips or similar? I've never seen it pushed very hard over here but the yanks seem to swear by them. Any reason why they aren't?

Id interested, I run chips in two 240s, and Oz Volvo also has threads on LH-2.4 chipping e.g.

Especially in turbo applications, you can get some decent performance gains with the right maps. You can also Ostrich the ECU and live-tune it.

I had the LH 2.2 found it was not very good. Ran rich and hesitation the last upgrade of the 591 chip ran the best.

I ran LH-2.4 Thelostartof chips in my old 740 Turbo (both ECU and EZK) and they did increase the power a bit (like 5-10% maybe), but IMO everything ran too rich most of the time. I've heard in the past that TLAO chips are tuned for quote "shitty American petrol", whereas I ran 98RON all the time.
@JamesM has that wagon now, which is still running those chips.

Interesting.. interesting.
Once I've got my new 940 squared away and properly "stage-0'd" that's likely where I'm looking to start tickling it, along with a 3in turbo-back, a wee-bit more boost and airbox/filter upgrades until VQ has the time to babysit the car for a while and give me a third pedal ;)
Hopefully the other James can chime in as well with an idea of how it goes too. I'd much prefer rich to lean, so maybe I'll leave the chips until I get a bit further along in the scheme of things where I'll need the extra fuelling.

3" is a worthy upgrade. I did that on my old 740T and, aside from sounding 100% more awesome, it gained a decent amount of power, and spooled way more easily!
Vee_Que
The 2.4 computer compensates well. But it may be time I get an ostrich and start tuning.... :s
Diverdonny
Yeah I absolutely loved the 3in on my 745, sounded super tough and freed the whole thing up, totally agree! I'm just planning on going quite a bit further with this 940T than I ever did with my 740T. I've been doing a lot of reading on megasquirt and other open source tuners but unfortunately it's all still a bit incomprehensible to me, plus the chips are cheap enough to be a good starting point for management-fiddling.

I have the chip for lh2.2
Just as nicko mentioned, there is a 2500rpm hesitation, to be honest I never ran it after I got the WB in, so couldn't tell youhowrivh, though I found no bringer over the 591 chip.
Now that I'm running e85 it would be a little redundant to go back to sus it out again.
I should move it on, with the ECM hats been made chip ready.

I initially had a BSR fuel chip, it was ok but then tried the TLAO fuel and Ignition chip and noticed a big improvement straight away. Most of the gains were in the ignition chip, it's more responsive low down and revs more freely. Obviously results vary depending on your setup, but even if there wasn't any HP gain with the TLAO chip the driveability improvement for me made them worthwhile
Diverdonny
@Ausmbtech is the car substantially modified in other ways also? Nice to see at least one good review haha
AlexS
IPD Turbo Cam advanced 3deg, 16T turbo, do88 Intercooler, Simmons cat back exhaust, running at 1.1Bar/16psi
It's a 940 with an Auto so I was looking for more grunt 1500-4500, I'm not chasing HP, just heaps of midrange for towing.
Ported exhaust manifold and 3" dump pipe are next on the shopping list.....
Vee_Que
I can help with a changeover ported 90+, the rest of the mods read like my 740t, except you have lh 2.4 which is an advantage.
Diverdonny
Nice! I imagine she'd be pretty grunty then. I'll be going very similar to that ideally but with a manual swap if everything goes to plan. Whereabouts are you from?
AlexS
I'm in Sydney.
I'd love a manual conversion, I'm not sure how long the AW71 is going to last with the extra torque....but then again a daily drive I get lazy and like the auto.
Vee_Que, I meant to get the exchange exhaust manifold months ago but a few other projects have kept me busier than expected. Hopefully I'll get to it soon :)
Vee_Que
Awesome, I have killed a few auto's myself, mostly through abuse and expecting boxes to do things they shouldn't do, but also due to being stuffed around by builders and failing parts. The accumulator mod helps them by a long shot!
AshDVS
@Diverdonny , we can help with plug-and-play chips too, tuned to local fuel and higher ambient temps.
Vee_Que
Interesting.... No mention on the website for that!
Diverdonny
Veeeeeery interesting @AshDVS
Any more little tidbits you'd like to reveal on that one?
JamesM
@Donny the 740 wagon I got from James is pretty quick. As this is my first Volvo I have nothing to judge comparisons on, but if you have any questions for me I'll happily answer them to the best of my ability.
There is an air fuel gauge in the car which can give you a reading if need be. She does use a lot of petrol but I like boosting everywhere :-h
jamesinc
I had that problem too, with the foot always on the floor. I do think there are improvements to be made in economy if you go with a chip designed for Australian 98RON petrol. Also (off-topic) easy gains still to be had with an aftermarket IC and silicone plumbing (the stock stuff I found loved to spring boost leaks)!
