Fitted an aluminium "drop-in" intercooler, not terribly difficult to fit but calling it drop in is a stretch, required spacers and longer bolts to prevent it rubbing on the radiator and a/c condensor... this pushed everything slightly further forward until the a/c condenser was touching the horn mounts. I relocated the horns down behind the front bumper (have always hated that you can see them through the grille anyway) and trimmed the excess plastic out of the way, bonus is it opened the whole area up a bit so there will likely be better air flow.
Because I like to do everything at once I also removed the turbo and sent it for a quick freshen up, including new seals and bearings and had my 11 blade billet compressor wheel fitted. Also removed the factory CBV. I modified the top intercooler pipe and have installed a turbosmart BOV.
The next trick (while the turbo was away) was to fit up the angle flange exhaust housing I have had for quite a while to allow me to fab up a new 3 inch DP. I have been postponing this for a long time thinking it was going to be quite difficult. I was very pleasantly surprised, I fab'd it up out of a 90 and 45 and it fits perfectly. I will build a stainless version sometime soon but the steel one is fine for the moment.
This pic shows how snaky and restrictive the standard DP is compared to the new one.
Minor hurdle when I went to refit the turbo.... turns out the exhaust housing I had was from a late P2 XC70, meaning it was a TD04L rather than a HL, while the housings look almost identical, the exhaust wheel is smaller, as such the housing will not fit. Thanks to
@timbo , I had a housing up from Canberra by 9:00 the next morning and managed to get it all back together just fine.
Today I purchased a couple of mufflers, a resonator and a cat so will be tackling the rest of the exhaust tomorrow.
