Volvo 240 bad wiring harness years

Hi I was just wondering if anyone knows the years the biodegradable engine wiring harness was fitted? From memory it was 1980-1987 but I’m not sure. I had an 84 240 with it. Thanks

One thing I’ve observed is that some other Euro manufacturers from the era were equally affected, so a supplier issue and not a specific Volvo only fault per se.

Bleedin annoying though, confined usually to areas subject predominantly to heat stress.

IMO, there should have been a recall years later, but it would have cost the Co a fortune.

Being CKD kits, I assume the cars built in Oz had their looms supplied from said poxy European wiring bods too?

When we say "1980" does that include commando bumper cars, or are we talking MY81? My GT's have both been 1980-built MY79's, and don't seem to have had worse wiring than anything else I've seen of that age that's had so much heat-cycling & grease-collecting etc. I retained most of mine as it all seemed fine (and I must admit I thought the carpy wiring was on newer cars).

Forg Yes (the looms were included in the CKD kits), and yes (we're taking YM 80).

When The GoaT threw a rod on the way home years ago, this damaged a harness in the engine bay. (The horn ground connection somehow became permanent, so it signalled to the world that the engine had died, because the cloud of smoke and steam from the block ventilation event clearly wasn't enough of an announcement....)

Dave Barton offers a replacement p/n 9139228 engine wiring harness, which fits OZ-market K-Jet cars with the 2-pole Auxiliary Air Valve. Price is $300 USD + shipping and a 3-4 week lead time.

Thanks @Major Ledfoot ... I'm not going back & doing harnesses at this point, I'll wait 'til something goes wrong, got enough other things to worry about. 🙂 Mind you there's no original engine loom left, that all got replaced, the OEM stuff is mostly inside the car plus stuff like ... I think lights, as I think the headlights already had a relay circuit & that wiring was fine.
