Hello all, I have the engine apart at the moment. I was wondering if anyone knows if people grind smooth (remove) the fuel pump lobe on the Aux shaft when they don't need it?

Potential minor weight saving and minor performance and smoothness gain?

Thoughts?

Zero. There's nothing to be gained.

As ramrod said, balancing the parts that do the work are where gains are made.

You’re better off having the engine rotating assembly dynamically balanced.

Pistons, rods, make them all exactly the same weight.

Take them along with the crank, crank pulley and flywheel to the machine shop and have them balance everything.

Then you’ll notice a difference.

I think the answer is, technically, the gain is not zero but, practically speaking, it may as well be.

As an aside, removing a bunch of material runs the risk of the shaft warping due to changes in internal stresses in the metal. You could end up having to regrind the other journals to get it back to true.
