^ Maybe a lot of the work on V8s needs two pairs of hands when you're on the clock? I can understand why a one-hoist shop having The Hoist tied up with a dead car while waiting for extra parts, etc, doesn't want to take those jobs on.
With the S80 V8's power steering - whoa boy; you know when the pump fails, because it's quite vocal when it does.
After a 6-week wait for a booking, the local dealer did ours a few years back, only because there was also a factory recall item that needed addressing. The dealer took 4 days to do it, didn't have the power steering pump in stock and told us it would be a week's wait for one (despite the long wait for a booking). So I raised hell and said it's a Vehicle Off Road item. (In the old days when I worked for a dealer, that meant an express order on-the-plane-overnight from Sweden if Volvo Australia didn't have one in stock). They then got the part in overnight. Funny about that…. On top of all this, they didn't bother changing the fluid reservoir (which has a in-built filter) so the car came back late, with the PS pump as noisy AF.
So Gold Star Automotive here in LST gets our business now, they see enough Volvos through their doors to justify the software subscription fees. I'm not brave to stick my fingers in ours, with it's CANbus and 57 god-damned modules.
