If the one that doesn’t look like it’s covered in 60 year’s worth of crud is a replacement part, is it possible a better replacement is now being sold to cover a range of original engines?

Can’t answer the actual question (although I’d have expected a NZ car not to need as much cooling as an Oz one!).

The clean one doesn't look like the original 1800E fan. IIRC they were steel and painted yellow…but it may have varied depending on the market?

Thanks for the interest, the 60 years of crud is the NZ spec, the other is from ES, it was yellow and just sand blasted. I can understand the smaller blades matching the cooler climate, but the different hub side as well it must have a different thermo coupling.

Massey165 Interesting…the "clean" one from ES looks a bit different than my ES fan. For some reason I was thinking my ES fan blades were steel, but that one looks like aluminium blades. Can you confirm? Been a long time - I had to cut some notches in my ES fan blades to clear the AC compressor magnetic clutch rivets, but I can't recall now whether it was steel or aluminium.

The one on left of pic looks like all of my 140 fans. Mine still have a bit of yellow. They're the 'tropical' setup in the book.

The one on right looks a lot like the one I removed from Rudie, the 242GT into which someone had rudely put a B21 with LPG. They appear to use a different fan clutch to the 'tropical' 140 fans.

I dunno if NZ got tropical spec or not.
