940 standard springs.

Hi, I'm restoring my 940 t and am having trouble finding standard height springs. Im planning to go B6 for the shocks. Im after a standard ride height with a firmer feel. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bear What does the VIN plate on your 940 say insofar as the chassis codes go?

Here is an example: The chassis code for this car is AA4GH15.

That code corresponds to the front and rear spring and shock codes, plus the sway bars info, which can be found in the Volvo Pocket Data Books.

Did a little homework on rear springs -

types 1, 2, and 3 rear are fibreglass leaf springs used in IRS2 960 95+
type 7 rear is used on standard 740 wagons
type 8 rear is 11.9 mm wire diameter

type A rear is used on 740 wagons

type C rear is 11.3 mm wire diameter

type H rear is 12.1 mm wire diameter
type J rear is also used on V40 / S60 / XC60 / XC90

I can't find info on spring rates, free length, or length at load unfortunately.

I got my springs (for a 240 so the specs for mine won’t help unfortunately) from a suspension specialist, as in a bricks-and-mortar shop which had scales I drove the car onto and they measured what needed to be measured & found something which suited. The original intention was to put in a custom order with King Springs, which would have cost close to 2x an off-the-shelf set, but the specs they came-up with matched the specs for a standard “heavy duty” V8 VB-VK Commodore set of Kings’. So if you can’t find an online seller that has exactly what you want (“firmer springs to match B6’s but at standard ride height”) then a suspension place might be the best way to go.

If that sounds like it suits, someone may be able to to recommend based on roughly where you’re located.
The place in the south of Sydney I’d have recommended shut down a couple of years ago so I’m useless in that regard …

If I were you, I'd check out RockAuto.com - they carry Lesjofors springs for the various Volvos…reasonably priced and shipping isn't too bad either. I got some rears for our 240 from them and it was probably cheaper than getting them locally…quick shipping too. I just searched on a 1995 940 (not sure what year and model yours is) and total cost for 4 Lesjofors springs including GST and FedEx is $435AUD. You'd need to put in your specific model info then select the springs you want (normal, HD, lower, with or without Nivomat, etc)

Hi, yeah I seen them but there a different diameter, 13.7mm i think. I was hesitant as I remember reading somewhere that standard volvo 940 coils where 14mm or greater.

I just need more schooling. Im looking up what I've got to see whats needed. Thanks again.
