Ford 8.8 diff & 140/164 diff wanted

As per title.

The 140 / 164 diff is wanted for donating its brake brackets and axle tubes, so sans axles and centre is okay.

The Ford Explorer 8.8 diff is wanted so it can be shortened / modified to fit into a 142. Ideally with LSD centre; ideally complete with 4.27:1 gears, because that's what it will end up being.

East coast preferred, within Tasmania = perfect.

We had trouble sourcing axles when building Danilos Amazon. The borgwarner/commodore/vl turbo diff has infinitely more diff ratio and brake options, and billet axles are pretty cheap and easy to get.Its a far better local option. If you haven't got any of the components so far, then I personally wouldn't bother with the explorer diff.

Also the rear brake setup is quite large, which can make it harder to attain a favourable brake proportion front to rear especially for a light car (sub 1800kg).

We were then able to run basically any of the Holden disc brake setups, from single piston 300mm floating calipers to larger factory setups and Brembo/aftermarket options.

What I want to do is cut the axle tubes off of the 140 diff, then get them welded onto the M78 or 8.8 diff so I don't have to stuff around with rear brakes and handbrakes, etc. - I can use ordinary Volvo rotors and calipers, etc and not have to worry.

M78 Borg Warner diffs are very hard to find these days too.

AFAIK, 4.1 gears are as short as they get for the M78 (ex-Pintara - about the only time a Pintara is useful for anything)
Are 4.27 gears available for the M78?

The 8.8 does have a 4.27 crownwheel and pinion set available.

If the option in Sydney does not work, I have a full rear end from a 164, located in central Victoria.

Major Ledfoot I don't think it will be a simple as swapping the axle tubes from one diff to another, and retaining the brakes, unless you've seen it done before?

timbo Not exactly seen it having been done before, but I read about an 8.8 conversion on TurboBricks sometime in the last couple of weeks. (I went looking for that thread, and couldn't find it again. Damn).

The poster mentioned how the Volvo tubes had been cut off the Dana pumpkin, then welded onto an 8.8 and then the axles replaced with ones of the correct length and with 5x108 PCD studs. This allowed the use of all the usual Volvo rear brake hardware, including the handbrake setup.

Of course, this type of job is wayyy beyond my meagre skill set, so I'm looking for the components to take to a shop and then saying 'build, please'.
