Volvo Snow Trays - anyone successfully painted them?

Has anyone successfully repainted a set of snow tray floor mats? I’ve had these knocking around in the garage for a few years now, I can’t decide what to do with them. I’ve been waiting for them to magically turn either tan or black. Image description

Obviously, my car would suit tan coloured, but black trays would look sharp too.

Yeah that’s not really the point, if I’m going to paint them I can do it myself.

They are in pretty good shape compared to most used ones I’ve seen, so I don’t want to rush into it until I get some feedback from people that have done it. Are people happy with the results or not?

I don’t want to use them for normal use as I’ve got some nice comfy carpet mats for that.

The trays are grey, so trim restorer won’t work. I think I have 3 options,
Paint them black
Paint them tan
Or sell them to someone that wants grey.

Pretty sure I painted some using black vinyl paint…they may have been dark blue originally. I think it was rear ones, not fronts…not sure how the higher-wear surfaces would hold up, but some plastics take the vinyl paint a lot better than others.

What did you do to prep them for paint? I’ve given them a good clean with APC, but I feel like they will need some sort of prep with degreaser so the paint will adhere to the plastic. I’ll give them a coat of primer first also.

Sell them to someone who wants grey , a black set will turn up

Clive740 IIRC I just scrubbed them with something like simple green and water then power washed them and let them dry really well in the sun…

interested if you want to sell! my drivers tray is cooked.

Paint wise, it’s a tricky surface. I think you’d want a thick, rubbery coating material rather than any sort of thin paint, it just won’t hold up.
