Maximum Wheel/Tyre Size on 940

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, what's the largest wheel/tyre total size you can go on a 940 without any rubbing? Getting some conflicting answers, or just people talking about wheel width. I'm more interested in knowing what the maximum diameter you can go to before any rubbing starts to occur.

Sydney940 I’ve ran 215/60R15’s on my 740 on stock struts and IPD lowered springs. Had minor rubbing issues but that was solved with an alignment. This was with 15x6 Draco’s. I’m aware that these are oversized but I haven’t had any issues on the road. Also recommend the Hankook Kinergy for road use, plenty of grip all around and quite cheap.

So the wheel is irrelevant, what you want are tyre specs?

Just checking - you’re aware that changing overall tyre diameter screws-up the speedo, aren’t you? As well as impacting acceleration.

Forg Yeah, I know it would mess up the speedo and impact acceleration. I'm not planning on doing this (at least not for a long while yet), was just curious.

I didn't think the wheel size was irrelevant though because a 14 inch wheel with 65 profile tyres is going to be smaller than a 17 inch wheel with 50 profile tyres. I'm asking about the largest wheel+tyre diameter that can fit on to a 940 without rubbing occurring. Maybe I could've worded it better.

No IMHO you made it pretty clear you were after the largest outer tyre diameter (I assume at standard ride height because changing that will change things HEAPS). 🙂

What’s the end goal for this info, though? If it’s about appearance then you’re often better-off sticking with a shock outer tyre diameter and lowering the car, for example.

Forg There's something about an 'overlander look' that's always appealed to me and it's something I've thought about for a while. I've seen plenty of slammed wagons but not many lifted ones. Something to consider for the future should I ever bite the bullet and go for it. I figured having the information will help me figure out how involved I want to get with it, and if it's even worth it in the first place.

I know it's not everybody's cup of tea though!

I rekon width would be a factor in rubbing when turning? ie width and diameter would have some sort of relationship with rubbing

crawlvo Yeah, and that's the thing. I'd love to do it but I know it's a major investment so I'm trying to get it all on paper before committing to it. I have come across the BNE page before. I wish I could see how they look. I think I read somewhere that people have used cut XJ Cherokee springs? Could be wrong. I've also come across Luca's lift kit for Redblocks. Tempting!

Just to get the ball rolling with some sizes, Ive had rubbing on the inner sidewalls of the fronts and rears with 205/65r15 on factory 7" wide rims. Standard height with factory springs.

My 2cents would be: At the limits of the suspension and steering travel you could probably induce some rubbing even with standard size tires. Saying that, Ive not had rubbing with 185/65r15 on factory 6" rims.
