The time has come to part ways with our 1968 145S. I we bought it from the original owner's son back in December 2007, and the car has been on full rego or club plates since then. It's always been in dry storage since we got it, and driven way too infrequently (I reckon we've put less than 1000 km on it since we bought it).
The body is sound. It has mostly the original paint (which has faded/dulled on the roof and bonnet). There are some low-speed parking damage minor creases/dings on the doors but no accident damage that I can see. The only rust I've found was in the floor pan due to a previously leaky windscreen. I treated that and have added body deadener and under-carpet insulation as well as new carpet (original rubber mats were falling to bits).
The engine compartment looks like new, and the engine has been reconditioned at some stage. The car runs pretty good. The previous owner recondition the suspension and looks to have powder coated all the suspension components. I added IPD sway bars and Bilstein B6 shocks.
The dash has no cracks, windscreen was new (in 2007). Previous owner installed a small Volvo tacho and VDO clock to the left of the main instrument cluster, and fitted a power antenna. Inertia reel front seatbelts from an early 164 have been fitted (original belts will be provided with sale). Otherwise the car is pretty much unmolested. I have an unmolested dash fascia plate from a 164 that would enable reversal of the added gauges if desired.
I fitted a wood Italvolante steering wheel. I don't think I have the original wheel.
The interior looks presentable. There's a couple split seams (IIRC in the back seat) and some fading of the vinyl.
Currently the RH rear brake caliper is sticky, and the heater blower fan doesn't work (I have a spare working fan).
I also have a genuine early-style cargo barrier with all hardware and fitting instructions to go along with the sale.
Looking for offers around $10k. Note the Michelin tyres were new when we bought the car, hence they're quite old now (but look new) so likely would not pass a RWC inspection. Brake caliper probably needs to be fixed prior to any long-distance drive. The gunmetal grey 15-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels in the photos are IPD replica Virgo wheels with ~5 year old Pirelli tyres…could negotiate to include those with sale. Not selling the black 17-inch IPD Pegasus replica wheels shown in some of the pics (looks cool though, doesn't it??)
Any interest, please let me know. The car is located near Daylesford VIC. I need to move some mowers etc. in order to get better photos (these photos are a few years old), but will do so in the next few weeks if I have time or if there's anyone interested.
