  • First the pump and now the front seats...

I've been convinced by my teenage son that the best way to tackle the 240 Estate's rapidly disintegrating front seat internals is to swap in some Alfa 156 leather jobbies. Just wondered if anyone on this forum has had a go at this and any tips/pitfalls. I've had a scout around on some of the other forums but thought it might be nice to get some local knowledge ^:)^
JohnH on turbobricks did some Alfa seats in his red wagon and i think something similar in his 164E...both threads are long but well worth reading through!

Same threads are on the Volvo Owners Club forum for the UK, with some different comments so may be worth cross referencing the 2.
Just make sure the seats dont have a side airbag! Its no different to how I made 850 seats fit my 740, except the rear mount on a 240 drops down, but you will have a higher seat once it's done, not good for tall people!
Is that a higher seat in relation to the Alfa seats or the 850's? My son is 6'6" so obviously again in height is a bad move!
Puttinh in Alfa seatS. I imagine the base isnt that slim vs a 240 on?
SO let me get this straight, the 156 seats will be higher or lower than standard 240 seats? The current seats are OK regarding height it's just support and travel that are the main issues....I've had a couple of responses with some on-line wreckers that have the 156 seats in tan leather and it would be nice to do a deal if they are going to be correct for the vehicle.
You need to physically measure the height of them before buying from the base, if they are electric they will be waaaay too high.

As demonstated with my 850 seats on the third post.https://ozvolvo.org/discussion/70/alex-s-740t-wagon

The 850/s70 seats are quite supportive and ive seen then fitted to 240s too, manual ones sit lower for sure.
It's always a bit of a dilemma when you buy blind so to speak. I can obviously question the seller(s) about most of this stuff, I was always gunning for non-electric seats but I'm guessing they come from earlier rather than later 156's or maybe it just comes down to model variants. I'm definitely open to suggestions as the Alfa ones don't have to be the only choice in fact I'd personally rather stick to Volvo seats if at all possible. I'm a reasonably dab hand with a MIG etc so mucking around with brackets isn't a major issue I just want to make it as painless as possible because I'm pushed for time....
The 850 seats are easy to adapt. I have more pics of What I did too.
That sounds great, I'd be very happy to view them if you have a chance to get them posted...
Just had a little measure of our 240's driver's seat and it's around the 230mm mark at the front of the squab and 180mm or so towards the back. This was measured from the carpet up, on the window-side. Your 850 seat was showing a similar amount (180mm) from what I recall so I guess that's pretty close....
I keep hearing how easy/simple it is to fit the Alfa seats but a certain amount of teeth clenching over the 700/800/900 conversion-it partly comes down to ease of fitment versus functionality to me, I'm not sure which way to jump!
