As for that brake bar near the firewall? Ah, yeah, heh - it's how Volvo managed to standardise the mounting of the brake booster and master cylinder on the left-hand side of the engine bay, even in RHD cars - by adding that bar to act as a lever from the RHD brake pedal to the brake booster.

As Angus mentioned, earlier 140s had a great long brake booster extension on the RH side (like in this example from Paul @cset's presently-for-sale 1970 144) but that setup looks to me like it could potentially cause serious problems for the driver in a moderate front-ender.

So for my build, I'm at the drawing board, wondering what kind / type of brake booster will fit on the RH side of the car.

Yes have been pondering that myself for the last few weeks, the hydraulic electric ones should fit rhs with a bit off massaging inner guard, or just go unboosted and change master cylinder to suit. Need some brake advice from someone more knowledable than me... But just checked again. 5mm clearanceclearance on the bar to rocker cover as is so might not have to worry as long at the mounts have bugger all movement.... I owned a 69 144 and this 142 so familiar with the earlier booster position.

I wouldn't worry about that tube in an accident, it's only made of thin sheet steel, and would bend like a pretzel in a crash.

No so worried about accident - just the motor twisting onto it and affecting the braking
