Thought I'd start a thread about my latest daily ..

A few months back I started a new job that didn't come with company transport so started using the 850 to and from work , 8 ks round trip . So , I was off from work for a day and just looking around the local fb volvo group and this appeared , and damn 5 minutes away . Went and had a look ( the guy was moving over east and wanted it gone ) after a brief test drive I brought it home , $2.5k happy days .

2006 T5 6 speed manual 250k on the clock full'ish service history .

The seller was a top guy , honest with its faults with no bull shit .
It had no working hand brake , no glass mirror lhs , petrol cap was in 2 pieces , no working AC , no rear badges and the headlining has disappeared from the sunroof. But the rear swaybar has been replaced , apart from that its stock .
Drives a treat , very quiet and smooth..

A quick thread on this forum and a member replied about the handbrake and that was sorted. New petrol cap , new badges. Not sorted the AC out yet .

Plans ... the wheels have curbing on all four so if they fit I'll put on the volans and take the original one off and refurbish them .
The whole car needs a damn good polish , hopefully that'll bring it back to looking half decent.
I've studied the Elevate gear for the C30 , hmm very nice but I bought it for the dog and for work lol , hmm sounds familiar 🤔 we'll see...

Side note , I remember when Volvo brought these out and always said to myself I want one as I previously had 3 480 ES models and they really remind me of that old coupe .

At those kms the A/C clutch will probably need a shim removed to compensate for wear, and both of our P1 cars needed replacement A/C pressure sensors before the system would work properly. One had split and leaked the gas out as well.

Nice car.

I had a thread on this few weeks ago as it goes.
These few pictures show what I have .
I'm no expert on ac but from what I've seen it looks like I'm missing the actual clutch . ..
That section if you look closely it's indifferent positions as these are static pictures, and when engine is going it just spins .

The clutch is there. The rubber has separated from the clutch plate. That 10mm nut is connected directly to the compressor shaft.

The rubber is a dampener like an engine harmonic balancer. Your rubber has separated from the metal its supposed to be bonded too

When the clutch is powered up it turns into an electro magnet pulling the clutch plate forward into the drive pulley which is the one with the belt on it And thus turns the compressor pumping the aircon gas around the system.

Thats whole front plate is just a friction disk made of metal just like a car clutch.

As the rubber is separated from the steel clutch face the drive pulley with the belt can't turn the compressor when the clutch is activated eg when you press the A/C button in the cab. Hopefully that makes sense.

Post pic with the Volans on it, I have propus wheels on my v50. Spacer rings off eBay.

4 days later

254k time for oil change then I'd thought I'll try the Volans

Happy days and no spacers needed , so threw em all on , and down to a servo for air . Looks good but I hear it screaming at me look at my arch gap 😄

No spacers? The centre bore is different.

OD = 65.1 mm to ID = 63.4 mm spacer rings is what I used, they are only thin but makes the wheel centre on the hub.

Yeah I thought this maybe a problem , I'll get hub centric rings but with the wheel nuts the chamfer on them pulls the wheels perfectly central . I'll see... went for a drive and no wobble , evenly breaking no noise etc ..

Edit , wheels sit perfectly on the disc , no movement

    5 days later

Today I'd thought I'd give it a small going over , try and pretty it up , the rear was pretty dull and some white paint from some scuffle from the previous owner

I only spent a couple of hours on it but it's looking better and with new badges

This trim hasn't been sitting right since I've had it so took it off to have a look

The two tabs that create a strap like that slides around the side skirt had broken , I tried a hot air gun to see if it may weld back together but nope just shrinkage so put it all back together and a bit of clear silicone will do for now 😀

Oh , was going through the service book and it had a new head recently

    Interesting..

    2 months later

I'm really liking this car and always loved the hot hatch backs , shame it's a daily as I bet it would be very nippy with few choice mods
Anywho just sat here looking at it on the lawn

I do think it's actually a good look car .. it's the most economical var I've owned I think
Oh still done nothing about the aircon 🙄

Being a daily is even more reason to do a few mods, you'll get to enjoy them more.

C30 looks fantastic on the angles and small enough to park just about anywhere.

Sounds like it's time for a few choice mods 😁
