Hey All, First time poster here. I’m currently on the Hunt for Information about My 79/80 model year GT. it was exported to the UK (sorry for taking your rare cars) in 2021 From the QLD Sunshine Coast area with the Reg number 273 XPI. It arrived to the Uk with little to no information other than some recent work carried out. The cars well loved and definitely had some money poured into it over the years so it seems weird how little history we have about it.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated as I’d love to see some period photos of it etc.

cheers 🙂

Do you have the car's VIN handy?

Have you checked out the TurboBricks thread for 242GTs? (link below)

Any members of the Queensland club know this car?

Unfortunately the OZ 242GT register keeper (Lance Phillips, of the Volvo Club of Victoria) passed away a while back, and I don't believe anybody has succeeded him.

funnily enough I do! My Vin is 2428A8A1172828 which doesn’t seem to show up on the TB register.

Someone had installed fog lights off the bumper at some point as there are rubber grommets in situ which I imagine that might help the memory of some, the wheels were also painted green under the refurbished silver (79 dated Virgos so mega early wheels), perhaps a colourful primer? But still noteworthy to jogging someone’s memory I’m sure!

Terrible shame to hear about Lance Phillips, I had heard his name mentioned on this topic a few times but never managed to track him down.

    Cheers

ExportGT - JFYI, those plates aren't original to the car - seems to me like the nnn-XPI plates would only have been issued sometime late in 2017 (2018 plates started at 000-XVA, according to the Wiki article on Queensland plates).

Maybe @Rob or somebody from the Queensland club might be able to identify this car.

Major Ledfoot that’s really good to know, I’ve never been majorly sure how how your plate system works to be honest!

does make it a little harder to track stuff id imagine which has its benifits and drawbacks.

Thank you for the info as-well perhaps i can reach out to the club directly (?).
