1993 240 wagon. I've just refreshed my wagons front end. Kings lowering springs, monroe shocks, ball joints, inner and outer tie rods. Waiting on new strut top mounts. It's on the ground now, need to adjust the tie rods slightly.

Is it normal for there to be more thread exposed on the top nut of the shock. My left shock top nut is tightened properly, it won't get any tighter.

The right shock is showing more thread and I think it is not fully finished or tightened.

Cheers

I've never seen them different lengths, but maybe you have different shocks left/right? Or maybe one side you are missing the bump stop/dust boot?

jamesinc I thought bump stops also.

They both have bump stops but I just grabbed a couple of ones I had laying around. The originials had tears in the skirts. I'm not even sure where they came from but they're definitely Volvo.

Are bump stops a standardized size?

Will it make a difference if they are not the same thread height?

Should I just put the originals back on with or without the dust skirts?

jamesinc The shocks came out of the same box.

I didn't notice a difference in them before fitting.

Ramrodfunk Will it make a difference if they are not the same thread height?

Well, I don't know, because they're not supposed to have different heights. Different thickness bearing in the strut top maybe? I doubt it though 🤔

Does the little plastic hat fit on top or no?

jamesinc The cap does still fit on but I don't think there's much room left before it doesn't.

242GT I'll double check tomorrow. Not thrilled about taking it apart again. Cheers
