Got a surprise last week when I tried to start the S80. It just wouldn't.
A Steering column lock error occurred and the car refused to start. Tried everything. I took the lock out and tapped it , cleaned it with WD40 etc , disconnected battery. It went well for two days and I thought I was good but it locked up again. Luckily I was at home on both occasions.
You cannot simply buy a second hand lock as it needs to be new and reprogrammed to the cars ecu.
The fix is a PITA. Volvo quoted me , get this $1600++ including towing .
