Manifold studs were not drilled straight from factory so I had to widen the manifold hole a lil

So fresh

A little porting...

Head is ON
At Voldat we use the PROPER cam cover goo... not that high temp RTV shit that other places pass off as ok

Rods in!
Put the old oil pickup on, wouldnt fit the newer pan so had to scrounge for the newer style

With that done, We rigged up an XC90 T6 engine support to hold the engine and auto in place while the subframe came out

And she's out!

No need, it's not like old motors that do not flow will stock, these flow very well stock, going bigger loses power to a degree on a street car.

More air and air in with turbo pumping it in always lets you have more power!

Just as your free flowing exhaust manifold lets it out quicker and the circle goes on.

But I get what you mean, its really about how much do you do for street car....
It gets crazy like @Lookforjoe on TB who had a car none of his family would go in cos it was too taxing to sit in as a drive to the shop car... I

Not quite. You can port too much from a head. They need the restriction to flow in combination with the correct cam in order to not pump everything out too soon.

A too big intercooler does hurt an engine for hp.

Freeer flowing exhausts once again, you go too far and lose all down low power.

I remember the PO of my S70T5 saying it had a stupid 4" exhaust when he got it and he got a 3" one done which drowned.... Imagine that 4 inch noise! Probably ran crap as it had no other mods bar a MBC...

Im not interested in delving into the fluid dynamics of atomised fuel and atmospheric gas mixtures... lets not get carried away here.

These heads flow OK, Amazing in comparison to a b20, but are not anything to write home about.

For a turbo car thats hits boost at 3K, this thing WAS slow under that threshold, but now due to almost every mod ive done so far its a bit peppier low rpm to come onto boost.

Turbo cars dont rely on exhaust gas scavenging the same way NA does, as free flowing as can be will be better for it no matter what.

Its a turbocharged car, nobody cares about its low down power... because if you arent wringing it out, then you should buy a V8

I havnt adjusted the redline yet James, what cams/head setup were you running again?
What was your soft, hard limiter and reset rpm?

Standard cams standard head, pulls about 26psi of boost from 2.5k then tails off at the top end to about 22psi as i unfortunately only have a 2.5" outlet on the turbo, sorry dont understand the last bit about soft/hard

Mmmm thats all sounding very good to me :)

Soft and hardline resets are how the car actually stops the rotational masses from over-revving.
Ie - soft redline could be the car leaning out a little up top to cause a reduction in power to prevent it from going past a certain limit.
Hard could be total fuel or ignition cut which would cause backfires - bucking and jolting
Soft is just that, its like its hitting a limit and dosnt want to go any higher

This demonstrates in a sort-of way

Ah get you, it's just in the map as a 7.5k limit same cut as was on the original map have a friend that take it higher but that limit is enough for me safely

Had to do some re-routing of turbo coolant drain lines, bosses on the housing made my life hard for 2 hours
Hacked up part of the old rubber hose and some of the braided line that came with it, Ill grab a better pic another time

Forgot to tighten the oil supply line to the turbo, 5l in 10 seconds... F&#K

Got some more 30W break in oil and went again

1st rack pissed out like you wouldnt believe, popped both boost off instantly...

Went for a 3 hour drive that night, varying degrees of load, a couple of full throttle pulls and a lot of engine breaking - apparently it helps to wear in rings... idfk

She did not miss a beat, the quaife is absolutely the most amazing thing, i FORGOT the car had one in it until I was asked how it felt... near no torque steer on the straights
