A few months ago while wasting time during my uni exam period I thought itd be a good Idea to try and track down my parents old 850R.

This car was owned by my parents - driven mostly by my mum to work and to Orange and back from 1998 to 2003 where it was traded in for a slushbox XC70 POS.

Ever since that day they regretted trading her in, we had a blue 850 10v wagon that was destined to be my car but was sold to Lance Philips' Daughter in law a year before I got my licence :(

This left 2 boxy holes (go figure) in our garage that I planned to fill one day with at least THE 850R and another swagon of my choice.

Current day - I posted up in the wanted section about the car:

https://ozvolvo.org/discussion/2856/tracking-down-an-850r-that-used-to-be-owned-by-my-family-ntv387-red-auto-sedan#latest,

@volstretch came forth as he had owned it between 2003 and 2009 where it was sold onto another club member who largely looked after it, but came into disrepair later in his ownership.

I called Voldat out of curiosity to find out if it was still around.
To my horror John replied with "Oh... the one thats for sale?" My heart sank... Im in the slow and expensive process of putting a T5 engine into my 240 and reallllly didnt need the extra expenses.

The car was owned by one of Mark's customers (The last owner) and was sold direct to Mark on the basis that it needed some serious work or it would have been taken to the wreckers :'( - It wasnt running and was quite faded... its red, what did I expect -_-

Long story short, I bought it off Mark and now I have four fking Volvos out the front of my house and only 1 that works most of the time

It's a great starting point for a project!
So, the plan is to keep it as is until the 240 has a t5 in it right?

I don't think so!
I want to get it running properly and roadworthy, Then all efforts back to the 250
yeah... 250 :D
Nice car , great project.

What would a manual 850r in good condition with under 200kms be worth In Red with a service history.

Do you think they will appreciate in value given there are not too many in good condition around.

Thanks,

You think wrong ;)
I love these cars having owned this one and paid top $ wish i could buy a 97 or 97 850 R in good nick and garage it for a few years. Real reason it was traded was xy dealer service costs and lack of aftermarket spares. A good service history adds to the value and this one has one..Love the roar of the kick down , Not too keen on the wheel spin..You know you miss a car when your friends remind you of how much they liked it..

Looks like a start. The AC could be as simple as shimming the clutch
You can pull codes from the AC with a 12volt LED and a paper clip
Ive got a reader and being OBD2 I should be able to get some codes no problem
It does not work on that model.
Even though it says obd2 on the port it was not implemented.
OBD2 works only on the transmission. You need an LED and switch to pull codes like the older system did.
Interesting, Ill definitely have to look into it

What im keen to find out is what could possibly be causing ongoing ABS and Tracs issues, Ive resoldered all of the contacts and I still have no control over Tracs and ABS Still does not work (No ABS or Tracs lights are on)

Im thinking ill have to clean out all of the tone rings and search for faulty wiring, The speedo was also intermittently working during the test drive
TRACS switch busted? Relay no good?
It only slows you down anyway , dump it......
check the dash lights could have been removed.
then fuse.
the pump wires are a common issue and can blow fuses
Can you get your hands on a working ABS module. Maybe its still the issue wven after the repair.?

Im definitely keeping it as stock as possible
The 240 is my project

The only non stock plans are to have a basic tune flashed and fit up some discreet gauges

In other news she is coming home tonight!!

Pic of the original non rusted to crap tip to go on :)

Im hoping to have a roady done next week, then Im going to tackle all of the non rwc threatening issues
On her way home!

The misfire seems to have gone but a full service is coming

I did notice a slight rocking during the transition of power and a bit of wandering on straights, a bit to the left, then a bit to the right... Ill need to get ontop of that
