Should be picking it up mid next week. (He has it booked in for the repair on Monday or Tuesday.)

That's awesome! Congratulations. After all this anticipation, we're expecting a thorough restoration thread with lots of pictures ;)

I'll try and do that as much as possible! Although I don't think there'll be a huge amount of restoration to do, to be honest - but I'll find something! At least some customisation (some Virgos will probably be fairly high on my shopping list).
In any case, it'll be a fairly slow process!

Go radical with wheels from a newer Volvo , virgos are overdone...Plus small diameter....and width.
lasercowboy
but... but... tyre width is inversely proportional to sidewaysness on wet roundabouts!

I see what you mean about Virgos being overdone, but I do quite like them personally, regardless of anything else about them.
Plus, wheels from a FWD Volvo (ie, 850-onwards) need an adapter to fit on a RWD don't they?

Yeah I saw them, the seller said he has a mate who can get them down to Bowral for me, so I'd just need to figure out if I could pick them up from there in the near future.
Ex850R
But you need to know they are round...and of course they are made of cheese so....
Thats why i go for any other wheel.
Better if it says BBS or anything not made for Volvo , cheese ....

I have virgo's on the (manual) wagon with Ash's -40mm springs and strut brace and I think it rides great. I have some Titans and and a set of Pegasus wheels (Joe reminder to me I'll give you a call!) that I will try at a later date but as is I am really enjoying this car (sorry Rico).
markc88
Ash's strut brace fyi also (may as well be on a roll with this imgur thing
240
I like your car!
How much did the strut brace cost you? And does it make much difference?
What's the best tyre size to have on Virgos?

@240 so far it seems to be saving me about 2 seconds a lap at barbagello raceway.....im guilty of buying because i thought it would look good.

Here it is...!

(This is the first picture I've put up so hopefully it works, let me know if it doesn't.)

Even though it's an automatic, it does drive nicely, and to be honest I am quite pleased with it; it feels like money well spent.
BradC
So you wanted a 240 manual wagon but settled for an automatic sedan? I mean, it's a nice looking car and all.. but..
240
Yeah, I know. Well I'm not too bothered by it being a sedan, so the only real downside is it being an auto. But to be honest, it's not the end of the world - it still gets me from A to B, and as an auto it actually drives better than I was expecting it to. (Besides, maybe I could do a manual conversion in the more distant future...)
(I'll also add some more photos later when I get a chance to take some better ones.)

I'm on my first auto after 24 years of manuals and it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I remember driving my grandfathers 74 144 B20A with the 3 speed auto and it seemed a bit of a slug compared to my 73 144 B20B with the M40 box.Fast forward 20something years and the B230/AW70L is a bit nicer by comparison, but then I've got 20 years of haze that maybe made out the 144 to be worse than it was.
In any case, practically any 240 that isn't totally shagged out is actually quite a nice handling car. Even the shagged out ones track well, they just take a while to settle into the corner.

Congrats! Looks great - you have much fun ahead. Anything needs doing?

Not really, nothing essential at least. One of the headlight reflectors could use replacing, and a few interior trim pieces are broken, but all round it's in really good condition.
It doesn't idle as smooth as it could though (or is that common with 240s?). I'll have a look at the plugs at some point to see what they're like, and I've got a new air filter to put in.
The previous owner did most of the maintenance himself (oil changes etc) and took it to a mechanic for bigger repairs, considering that, what things should I be checking/replacing first, do you think?
