I have a 2010 xc60 t6 and over the year or so of having him, it has been a blast. We took to some country roads, gravel, sand, and some canyons too. It was a cruising sensation and then some.

However, with age comes maintenance.. quite a bit more than I anticipated tbh.

One of such problem was the whining and whirring of the rear differential at about 80 km/h

Financially it would be quite a hit for me right now. Was wondering if anyone has driven a vehicle with the half shafts out of the rear? Essentially turning it into a front drive vehicle? or what might the possible repercussions be of driving on with the ill diff.

Hope to hear from you all before I take the next step.

Cheers.

Just turn the radio up, no big deal

Keep on running

How many kays on the unit?

How often have the transmission, Haldex, and angle gear had their lubrication fluids flushed? Or are you another victim of "Sealed For Life"?

Major Ledfoot the common failure is the pinion bearing in the diff, usually get 150,00-180,000kms out of them. They also rarely get an oil change as you mention

jamesinc changed the title to Noisy AWD rear differential - what would you do? .
