dmc have a look at manheim in Tas.

That one is NA, and she's hit in the LHF. Pity,, it's only got 130K or so on it.

GuyF a clean 940 turbo wagon just popped up on Facebook for 11k , I can't remember which group but there's only 3 haha
It looked nice .

pigdog a clean 940 turbo wagon just popped up on Facebook for 11k

This one. In "Volvo Sales - Australia".

pigdog I did see that one, tempted to have a 3rd party inspection..

    What are your opinions on 1990 740 b230ft vs 96 940 b230fk?

    Same same?

GuyF I would prefer the fk , piston squirters and they only run 4psi if it's been well kept and the boost hasn't been turned up it should (in therory) be a healthier motor .

I wouldn't pay 11k for it though it's nice but the market is dead ATM it's a good time to be a buyer nothing is moving fast so you should have room to negotiate.

      7/900s don't fetch the money 200s do I would be offering 7/8k

pigdog that's good to know, thanks mate.

I'm having a 1990 740 turbo looked at on Monday

Might get that 940 looked at too and do some negotiating.

I would wanna turn the boost up a little bit so the oil squirter block would be the better option then. That's great to know!

        Thanks for the info 👍

That’s not to say you cannot boost up the older engine with no oil squirt jets, they were installed primarily to control piston slap noise.

They’re good to have, but not completely necessary.

All engines prior to 1993 didn’t get oil squirters and what damages them is inexperienced people who continue to increase boost pressure without giving consideration to tuning first and keeping good control of air/fuel mixture

Ramrod hit the nail on the head , its really going to come down to which one was better maintained over its life , squirters are nice to have but not necessary at all especially for the power levels you wouod want but they are a nice thing to have if you can .

The first thing I do with any turbo car is install a Wideband gauge so I can watch AFRs they are cheap but worth their weight in gold.

Also if you are substantially turning it up maybe consider an electric boost controller like the GFB ge force 3 .
I run that and it has a lean cut feature which is absolutely brilliant and has saved me a motor .

I was racing a guy at 24psi my eyes were glued to the road not the gauges , something happened and it leaned out but the geforce caught it and dropped boost to wastegate pressure I felt it go from 24psi to 12psi it was like hitting a wall, I looked down and seen my temp gauge rising I switched the car off and coasted off to the side .
Head gasket blown but no other damage and it didn't get a chance to get hot .

If I didn't have the lean cut feature I wouldn't have backed off and would've ended up cooking the motor .

$300 very well spent in my opinion .

Just something to consider , LH2.4 is capable of quite alot but it is old and slow you want to keep an eye on things just in case .

          • GuyF replied to this.

ramrod thanks for that! I'd be wanting to tune it properly so that's good to hear that squirter aren't absolutely necessary for a reliable tune.

pigdog copy that mate I'll look at the gfb boost controller and definitely air/fuel gauge.
