There's one specific to b21 & b23's and another for b230's.

My 84 water pump is on its way out. I was reading the above comments and you guys were saying that there are two different pumps for that year?

Angus says that I have the B23E. Is that five or six bolt?

All the research I've done so far nails it that it is the correct fitment...

Just as a side issue, does anyone know much about the quality of Scan-tech seals for this application? It's just that I've been reading quite a bit of stuff on-line regarding the brand and certain products not being up to scratch...?

As I said above, don't do it. Genuine Volvo for hoses & seals (water, valve stem, shaft). Cheap out on other stuff that won't leave you on the side of the road when it goes pop.

I've never had an issue with aftermarket seals on the waterpump. Not so much as a drop. However I also coat those seals with a bit of RTV before setting everything in place, so maybe that is why!

Don't worry, I'm not looking to go cheap, the choices here in Tas are a lot more limited than on the mainland but I still manage to track down what I need (eventually). Caffyns Volvo in the UK are sending out the rubber components, I think that the gasket I have will be fine so we'll wait and see....

I didn't have any issues with the non OEM seals that came with the Hepu but then again I hadn't done as much research on the topic as this time around, I just hate having to go back in and do the same job twice...

If I'm in a rush I get my genuine parts from the local dealer (and they generally get them over from the east). If I can wait to avoid being raped with a pineapple I get them from volvowebstore.com or fcp.

I like that allusion, I certainly feel like I've been handled quite roughly but in any case the genuine stuff for 240's is definitely dwindling and not being stocked or re-stocked...

One trick I've found with the on line parts web stores is to search by part number. Take volvopartswebstore for example. They don't even list the 740 or 240 on their search or vehicles list, but by using the part numbers from VIDA I purchased an original set of early 240 windscreen clips and the seal rubber from them. They seem to have a back end link somewhere to volvo america and if it's in stock anywhere in the US they can get it and on-ship it. I've even picked up some obscure trim bits of my 740 that my local volvo dealer listed as NLA.

You do need the part numbers though. I purchased a new set of genuine strut mounts/bearings shipped from the US for just over half what the local dealer wanted to charge me for 1. It's always worth looking elsewhere if you are not in a hurry.

The best way to find part is you go to Google and type Volvo <part number>. You'll find all the shops that sell it.

All good points, I actually use the dealership for this as well, let them do the poking around with the VIN and spit out the parts numbers then buy elsewhere knowing they almost certainly will be a correct fit...

I certainly couldn't make any thing else out, it's really quite tricky to see the engraved coding under the grime and flaking paint, cast-in coding would be a hell of a lot easier!

Isn't is simple as the B23 has the fixed crank pulley and the B230 has the balancer?

They look a bit different too on the starboard side.
