On the exhaust side of the head, near the manifold, there is a long number cast into the head. The last three digits are what you are interested in 160 is the early small port head. 405 is the early big port head and much preferred. 530 and 531 are later castings, usually seen on B230s with EFi but occasionally found on early motors as factory replacements. 531 is the pick of them.
That HEPU pump is a find! I'd run that, keep an eye out for leaks in the beginning.
I've got plenty of 240 parts, I've wrecked a '77 and '81 and I'm wrecking an '81 and '85 right now as well as having boxes and boxes of assorted Volvo bits I've gathered over the years....
Council is nagging me to reduce my backyard ornament collection, which would also make the Mrs happy, and I'm working a lot and got a baby to look after, so I'm letting stuff go that I never thought I would...I have more projects than I can actually expect to get around to doing!
I'm always up for a Volvo chat and a trawl through the parts boxes, so if you need anything in future, do give me a shout.
Nick is the go to guy at Imparts for Volvo bits, he's got a pretty sweet 240 himself.
