As this is a community that has yet to let me down, I once again write you all in need of some help!
My extremely faithful (up until now) B230F has been giving me some VERY sporadic/intermittent issues.
The engine will just occasionally die on me, whether I'm cruising or sitting at the lights. Revs will suddenly drop to what feels like a low idle, a bit of a cough (not unlike running out of fuel), and then total engine shutdown. I've always been able to get it started again- sometimes immediately, sometimes after as many as 10 attempts at the ignition (thankfully I've got a fresh battery). It started a few months back, where it may have happened once every two or three weeks. Then I got a new job and started driving longer motorway journeys and the problem seemed to resolve itself. No issues for about a month until recently when it became alarmingly frequent but inconsistent. Some days it won't happen at all, some days it happens 4 times on a 35-minute commute. It will happen up and down hills, on level ground, under acceleration or coasting. There is no specific scenario that I've noticed causing it.
It's got aprrox. 350,000-380,000kms on the clock (had to replace the odometer gear when I bought it), and I'll be the first to admit that apart from regular oil changes and new engine mounts a few weeks back, probably doesn't get all the love it deserves. There are certain to be some overdue maintenance items, but I'm saving HARD for a house as a student so this "beater" I picked up for $800 that has inadvertently turned into a daily unfortunately only gets major issues dealt with (I'm sorry).
But I digress, my best guess is some type of fueling issue, but that isn't exactly an "educated" guess. Just a hunch.
I have ordered a new fuel filter to see if this has any impact, but any additional suggestions on where to begin my diagnosis would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
