Looking for a 740 wagon preferably black and manual but fine with auto

Not heaps of manual wagons out there, I got super lucky to find mine (even so the M46 has a horrible reputation). Best option would be to grab a 740 wagon in auto and swap a T5 in. Most common swap, plenty of documentation. If you're not exclusively looking for an early front end, don't rule out the 940, 960 and v90. Otherwise you'll want a 745 or 765.

Currently there are no 745/765s listed on facebook, Gumtree or Carsales. There is one 945

Thanks heaps, I’m pretty keen on the look of the 740, I’ll have to look into a T5 swap, my plan anyway was to swap an auto as they are more common. Send your facebook I’m keen on any listings there are, much appreciated for your time and wisdom.

Swedthusiast don't rule out the 940, 960 and v90

JFTR, Volvo Australia imported less than 50 960/V90 wagons into Australia, over all the RWD model years (1991-98).

Those who have 'em are hanging onto 'em (well, at least everyone whom I know who has one, are) so the OP isn't likely to find a factory 6-pot.

No stress mate, I'm the same; the early 740 front end looks heaps better, in my humble opinion the early US Quad light front end is one of the toughest lookin' cars ever made so an early model and front end conversion was non-negotiable for me.

Swedthusiast I agree, if youve seen paul newmans volvo (hes the voice of doc hudson) they look mean. I did see a 1986 gle on facebook, it had the oxblood interior but it was going for 9k.. is that a reasonable price? i lowballed the crap outta him saying 4k cos ii was bored.. he told me if i came to him with 4k hed kill me, i was expecting an answer like that but i dont know if that those cars are worth 9k?? if someone can fill me in on the general value of them or what i should be paying if i do find one. mind you it had 170ks so decent. the listing had been up for 9 months so im assuming people arent willing to pay that much.

Major Ledfoot Geeze knew it was low but didn't know it was that low, just thought I'd chuck the list of similar wagons up for him. Can definitely say if I had a v90 it wouldn't ever be getting sold.

Bowenarrow personally I can't imagine spending a dollar over 5k for a turbo but the market is dictated by what people will pay. A golden turbo auto 88' 745 went up got $3k last week and didn't even last two hours before it's sold. A black auto turbo sedan went up for $4k a few months back. Didn't sell, then they bumped it to 10k and it won't sell at that (both in Melbourne)

Swedthusiast dangg yeah no wonder i never saw that one that got sold withing a few hours, and yeah ive looked at the black one a few times, i didnt know it was 4k originally, i think the story with that one is they bought it to do up and then sell it. not worth 10k

If I was looking for a build project 700 or 900 wagon, I’d be considering a UK import option. Before you scream RUST, decent manual wagons can still be found for under £3000. If you’re picky about the car you find, relatively rust free examples are out there. UK cars often cover lower mileage than we do.

AND THEY SOLD 1000’s OF MANUAL WAGONS IN THE UK.
