The 18t does make good power, on a motor with a good flowing head, not a 8v redblock ;)

The heatwrap does a good job, if you used the titanium wrap instead of fibreglass you won't have issues!

You definitely cannot fit a 3"? Anyway, when you bring it back to Melbourne i can finally see it in person and how it goes!
If it looks stock it doesn't need engineering. Ie factory turbo and manifolds and intercooler and ecus. You will need engineering because of how you've done it. Or you can risk it and hope you don't get defected because you want to do more mods that require an engineering cert. We don't have mod plates as such. Can't wait to see it in Melbourne!
i have spoken to two vic road approved/listed engineers re a b23/b230 turbo conversion.... both said it could be argued that "technically it could be classed as an engine option/ availble from the manufacture.....so no engineers needed..... only if running stock gear ie computer ect... but if i want to be 100% one was $800 and the other was $1k to engineer it...
I'm pretty sure I have a set of lights and the correct mount panels somewhere, I can probably dig them out if you want them although postage from sydney may be a killer unless a bruce can be arranged to get them to you
Just saw my name come up, I have a set of headlights and mounts on a parts car here, they are destined to go to another guy, but I may be able to come up with a plan to supply everybody with a set and keep everyone happy. Send me a PM if you're interested.
Samman88;60448 wroteThanks for the info @Vee_Que and @penta242gt. I have been doing a bunch of research and it looks as if my current setup will be unengineerable as it sits anyway. I think I'll just hope for the best for now and not do anything to get pulled over - benefit of driving a 245 right there.
In fact, it is alot easier to engineer an entire engine conversion (as long as that engine is reasonably stock) than it is to engineer minor mods on the original engine (another pro for the 1uz route)
As I have found in the past (getting my friends' patrols' 5" suspension lift engineered) it really helps to know a guy who knows a guy.

Hey @penta242gt with your 16v was there a reason you didn't use the b234 pistons?

In other news, thanks to a day with @DCW242 and a handy 242GT in the pickaparts I now have all the bits for a flat-hood single round conversion except the headlights and backing mounts for them! The pickaparts wanted $50 each and they were all cracked up so I may get some off @Angus242164 or whoever has any!
Im sure its not easier... Its effectively the same thing if you upright mount the motor as it is what you Do on a new motor... But to run an aftermarket computer on a 1uz is no different, so you're going to stop where you are wit this motor or keep going, then spend even more money to put a less powerful and more expensive to make over 200kws motor in?

No invite to the wreckers? Aw man, im not far from it either! Berry will have the parts you need too, and for not much.

You don't use b234 pistons as they aren't that strong. Literally NO ONE uses them for turbo applications. source a 16v motor?

I have an iPd shim kit, but I'm in Perth.
To be honest I've done a couple of cam swaps and only had to swap out 2 shims thus far, and both of those were probably within tolerance (but right at the extreme).
You will struggle to build a 400kw redblock that will be a reliable daily. It can be done and has been done quite a few times but there are easier options out there that wont result in a highly strung motor thats one fuel pump or injector failure away from turning into scrap metal.
There's no replacement for displacement.
Berry has a shim kit. So you can easily organise for adjustment there.

400kws is a lot. Unless you've been given a house to live in etc, to afford it will take a lot Longer Than you think. That being said, boost gauges like what you've bought cost near $100 and a speco one that works fine for a long time is $30, or your intercooler :p
You said it was a pwr one? And was $700?
