2008 S80 T6 Parking Brake Service Required

This week after not driving the car for 3 weeks as we had gone on holidays, my sons S80 T6 on start- up greeted us with a flashing parking brake light and two warning messages

The car could NOT be moved as the handbrake locked the rears and would NOT engage or disengage. WTF?

Tried restarting the car, checked the fuses( looked fine) , took the battery out and charged it overnight – no change

The rear brakes had approx 30-% left so I decided to overhaul them. Used 12volt battery to back EPB motors, installed new Bosch rotors and pads , greased the calipers pins etc Everything works fine, EPB motors retract and tighten, calipers are not sticky, pads and rotors new

Car can now be driven- but cant engage park brake and No parking sensors (doesn’t work if it

senses parking brake on) warning messages still there and P flashing

I am now left with the parking module. I have NO VIDA, can I rest and clear it with VIDA?

Anyone with any suggestions?

I have fixed this issue!!

Due to the overwhelming response to this rather common problem I will let others know what the procedure for the fix is

My son rang Volvo for a quote and was told $2500 -3000 approx including towing fees!!!! The car could not be driven as the parking brake locked the rear wheels. Everything would need to be checked, a new module would have to be ordered and the whole thing would need a software update etc etc!! lol (The parking sensors error is related to the parking brake error)

If you get the above errors-my procedure for fix

Check the 3 fuses- under the glove box, fuse no 3, 5amp- in the boot, cream box- 2 x pink 30amp
If ok disconnect negative terminal on battery for 15 min
If no result you need to look at your rotors and pads for wear-if ok
Test your parking brake motors by removing clip behind motors and using 9v or 12v to wind the motors back.
Take out the callipers and lube the pins ensuring nothing is sticking( optional)
The car can then be driven
You will have no handbrake or parking sensors and the P will flash with the error messages appearing
Remove the left hand lining from the boot- tip- disconnect left side light, lower left back seat, remove floor cover Total 3 clips + 4 plastic 10mm bolts (LHD shown USE other side)
Remove the four 10mm bolts holding the parking brake module- undo the two bolts and push the red lever back to release it

You need to find exact matching numbers replicate for the module- I got mine from BerryM

Re install and presto – everything works and no error messages and no requirement for VIDA or software

I never had it happen on my P3 but am always reminded by Mark from BMG that he NEVER uses his electronic park brake lest this happens!

That’s the other option….
