Need DPF help. First time owner

I’m a first time Volvo owner seeking some advice. I’m working towards getting a roadworthy and part of that involved getting a used DPF to replace the that was on it when I bought it. The original was fully clogged up.

When we put the new DPF on, it drove well for about 100km and then started getting the Soot Filter Full error.

My mate who’s helping me with the roadworthy has a code scanner and the pressure, temperature and amount of soot appear to be fine. The scanner allows us to attempt a filter refurbishment and it gets to about 75% before borking.

Any ideas? We’ve also looked at the injectors and they seem fine. Does anyone know of a place in Australia that does ECU resets for a reasonable price?

My mate, who’s the knowledgeable part of the roadworthy effort, has told me ECU reset is the wrong term. Reprogramming the ECU with DPF delete is what we’re after. We’re using all the cleaner products today and have reset the codes using the scanner. Thanks for all advice though. 🙂

The scanner is a third party Autel scanner and the error it gave when we tried the particulate regen was ‘Regeneration Aborted with Cooldown’

You need a high end scanner or VIDA and DICE to reset the codes.

Where are you?

It could be $100 or more to have a shop do the scan unless you find a free one….

Ex850R Thanks bloke. We can reset codes (and have done multiple times) with the scanner we have. We’re looking for reprogramming the ECU to delete the DPF. That’s a lot harder, we believe and needs specialised equipment.

Ex850R that said, and touching wood, we put a metric ton of DPF cleaner through it today and then took it for a run. It might actually have worked. No code so far.

Thanks for the tip. My mate is a Peugeot bloke and is familiar with HDI Tuning in the UK, so knowing Volvo tuning people is very, very helpful. Much obliged.

Best cut it open to clean it, fluids don’t work so well unless in a hot tank or something

Not sure what you mean. Dog? It was coming up before with Soot Filter Full code. We put the cleaner through it today and now it isn’t in limp mode and the pressure has reduced from about 700hpa to 30hpa and the code has gone and not come back so far. Seems like a win.
