Alright so, context first.
My 81 240’s been losing a bit of coolant for the past couple of months; maybe half the overflow tank every two weeks. At first I thought it was a leaking radiator because the car drove fine. I changed oil and filter just to make sure; and the oil was fine.
A 200km trip to Goulburn after that, the whole overflow tank was empty. No leaks from the radiator were apparent, however. I then checked the dipstick and the bottom of the oil filler cap and both were milky. Que: “oh shit”. The car ran perfectly though, no overheating or power loss either but still at this point I was convinced it was the head gasket.
Parked the car for a couple weeks and today I drained the oil, expecting a lovely milkshake but it seems perfectly fine. Considering a whole coolant overflow tank disappeared, if it disappeared into my sump I’m sure the oil should look VERY different.
so, wtf? Is this definitely not a head gasket issue or??? How can I explain the milkiness on the dipstick and bottom of oil filler cap because there’s too much for me to just say it’s condensation.
pictures of the milkiness, and the seemingly perfect oil (that’s only done ~200km) are attached.
