It is a common place for corrosion where the coolant passage meets the aluminium head.
Both the heads I have off are similar and needs some fill work. One day when my 2 year old isn't trying to help and the shed is cleaner, I want to try Tig welding my patches up on a head just to see how not flat it becomes.
I have heard it's possible to DIY it but a machine shop visit would be the precise time efficient way.
