240 sway bars

I'm not a big fan of the small sway bars on my 1977 244, anyone have a 21mm front sway bar? Not even sure what the options are for rear.

I was contemplating the IPD bars and while I know I'd love them, with the exchange rate it's a solid $1k+ for a pair, yeesh

jamesinc Going from memory only and without digging through the cattledogs or my notes, IIRC the OZ-market 1979 242GTs used 23 mm fronts and 21 mm rears... but I may be wrong.

If you want customs, K-Mac Suspension in Banksia make sway bars to order out of solid spring steel, not out of sand-filled pipe.

Maybe a long shot but if there was a group purchase, I am sure you could find a business who could make what ever you want. Cheers Bob

@Massey165 I have mulled making my own, it doesn't seem impossible, I'd probably make some fixtures and then churn out a bunch, but would have to have them sent out for heat treating.

Major Ledfoot my 242GT had 21mm front, 23mm rear when I got it, though may well have been stuffed with over the years.

Again going off memory I thought the GT were meant to be 23mm front and rear and the GLE 21mm front and rear.

James if you let me know what sizes you are after I will have a look what I have. Should be able to do up to and including 21mm.

VolvoHordz I reckon your numbers are more accurate than mine - 23 /23 does sound correct.
I do recall making a list of them years ago, as in pre-TAS move, and gawd knows where it is now.

VolvoHordz well my wagon (which is a GLE) has 21s and I am pretty happy with it, so 21 front and ideally rear also. I need to check what the stock rear size is on my 77 definitely not 21.

79 gt is 21 front, 23 rear. 80 gt is 23 front, 21 rear.
