I'd been searching for the last couple of weeks for an 850R or an S70T5/V70T5.
Manual was a preference but not a real big issue - my wife wont drive a manual car so an auto is probably easier.

Selection criteria were -
* Preferably not red
* Preferably a wagon
* Must have charcoal interior
* Must be basically stock
* Must be non-AWD
* Must not have a sunroof
* Must have A/C

I came across a few options that would have had potential, but the gods just weren't smiling and either my timing was off and I'd missed them or whatever.
I really wanted an 850R but it didnt quite work out that way.

The car I ended up with is a disgusting, filthy, high km V70T5.
The basics are there - no sunroof, charcoal interior, A/C works.

I picked it up last weekend, havent really even looked at it much yet. Still need to clean and degrease the whole thing and give it a wash and work out what the actual starting point will be.
It's not intended to be a daily, as such it'll spend a lot of time in pieces while we work on a few different things and progress through it.

The Focus is 'better' in just about every way, but I just don't like it as much and rather than build something so that I can better understand a platform and translate that to product, I just want to build something that I like.

I think I'm onto one, but progressing that to seeing a car and handing over some cash needs to wait until the current state of Victoria calms down a little.

I've been hoarding parts over the last while so already have a fair stash of decent and hard to find P80 platform oddities.

For me, I'd love a yellow T5R but cant justify the spend. an 850R is a 'better' (slightly) car but isnt as rare and an S70T5 or V70T5 is essentially an 850R anyway.

I dont want an AWD car. They're heavier, lazier to change direction, the AWD is a sap of power and they just dont feel as fun to drive.

Good HPT cars are really hard to come by. If you're chasing one now, grab the first passable one you can and address the thing over time.

I got a set of Titans (850T5R) from Spac.

I was thinking about Comets (1997-1998 V70R) but Titans are my favourite 850 and x70 wheel ever so luckily it worked out.
If I'd ended up with an 850R, I'd have kept the Volans. Since mine is just a T5 though, it has 16" wheels.
I need to use 17" wheels to fit brakes under.

Oohh , nice one! I am not a fan really , the T5R maybe it suits the colour for me but they look out of place on most others for me...Everyone has their own preference!
I have some SAAB 17s i want to have adapter spacers for if possible , they are the beeez neez for me ! Similar toi a VMS wheel IPD ( and VP Tuning ) had.

Comets are available in 16" and 17"
For the Australian and European markets, we didnt get the diluted R models that the US got, so more commonly we see them in 17"
1997 & 1998 models have 17" Comets while there were a couple of different wheel styles on our '99 and '00 cars including a 16" wheel that was quite similar to a Pegasus and Titan.

The Titans for my car will either get painted in the factory Anthracite colour or the VE commodore 'Thunder' charcoal/grey colour - probably whatever is easiest for the guys painting them.

Bits and pieces are starting to roll in and the shopping list of bigger stuff is being arranged.
This morning I got onto a drivers door and a drivers side rear door in the same silver - my drivers side rear door has typical marks, scuffs and scrapes from a lot of not being careful with it.
The rear drivers side door has a couple of odd dints up high in the window frame.

The car should make it into the workshop at home next week as the 240 shell is ready to be removed.
Rear rotors are on their way, I still haven't yet made a decision about rear pads.

Front brakes will be LS-LV Ford Focus XR5 calipers and rotors (also found on S40/V50 T5 AWD models). I'll use an EBC slotted and dimpled rotor (not cross drilled - I should start a thread on why you should NEVER EVER use drilled rotors on a road car!!!) and probably either genuine Volvo or genuine Ford pads to begin with - I have a few sets from the mock-ups and testing we've done so far.
My car will use the a set of our adaptors from our first volume production run which I hope isn't too far away - I'll post some pics of the finished products when this run is back.

I'm going to do the work in lumps and will do the rear brakes and rear suspension at the same time, then get the front suspension, brakes and engine mounts done in the next hit.

Somewhere in amongst all that, there will be some pretty solid panel swapping going on - bonnet, RF guard, RF door, RR door and some scrubbing to get rid of the filth.
Post scrubbing, we'll do a service, probably a timing belt, tensioners, fit an underdrive crankshaft pulley, serpentine belt and all the usual maintenance stuff that you do when you find yourself not knowing the full history of it. Timing belt was supposed to have been done but I don't know about the tensioners. So, If I'm pulling the cover off, I may as well pop another belt on and do them so I know they're done.

I'm a mod everywhere! People seem to think I'm upstanding for some reason!
I'll try to keep it vaguely on track here if I can and perhaps remove some of the posts where I start or join conversations that go off on tangents, etc.
I have a tendency to ramble on.

It looks good from about 10ft away. It has a good sized dint in the LR quarter, rear bar is misaligned, front bar is misaligned, dint in the bonnet above the grille, dint in hte RF guard above the side marker, dint in the LF guard near the indicator, fuel flap is bent and clips to hold it closed are missing/broken, ratty paint on both RH doors, chips on the edge of the LF door, crack in the RHF indicator lense, RH foglight doesnt work/discoloured, RH headlight chrome flaking - thats about all the cosmetic stuff so far that I've noticed in the total of about 25mins I've spent looking at it.

There are some interior wear and tear items too.
A/C works, it's had a reco auto in it about 2 years ago.

It's probably the filthiest car I've owned. My VZ was cosmetically a bit ratty when I bought it too and my 240 was a little rough when it first came home.
Should come out ok though.

Last night @240Joe and I did a road trip to pick up and drop off some parts from/to @Spac
We did Geelong > Werribee > Albury > Geelong
Total was just over 850kms
I brought home a set of Titans for the V70, we delivered an old motorcross bike and some parts for @jamesinc, and also came back with a couple of sets of wheels for people and an R Sport turbo kit for Joe's 242.
We delivered some parts to @A_Volvo_Driver in Werribee on the way too.

Here's some pics of the wheels from @Spac. They're a great starting point and just about ready for coating.

Here's some questions though - they have some sort of insert/sleeve in the holes. My guess is that it is/was for someone running studs and nuts rather than a wheel bolt as per the 850. No idea yet how to get them out.

One of the wheels appears to have been drilled for a tyre pressure monitoring sensor too. what appears to be the base of it is still there -

Anyway, super happy with them and excited to have them painted and ready to fit.

The bar needs a repair but will come out fine.

They're actually really neat. The ride day car for the 850 Super Touring team was actually an 850R and had Titans on it. I have some pics of it from when it was in the musuem at Bathurst few years ago. My Pics aren't that good but I'd say a similar thing was done to that car. Ill dig up my pics and post them.

The solution will be a reverse bearing puller and maybe a slide hammer or part of a pitman arm puller.

Memory is hazy, but the bloke I got these from said that he bought stuff from someone (Tony maybe?!) who used to run an 850 production car.
