I thought that switch on upper rear block was the temp gauge switch? On my ES the thermal time switch is located down on the side closer to the rear of the exhaust manifold IIRC and has 2 wires on it. I could be wrong but interested to see as it may be a lot different on my D-Jet vs your K-Jet.

I really need to unbox my green books...as all this “going by memory” stuff isn’t too reliable as age creeps up on me, but I’m certain the thermo time switch on the ES has 2 wires. Lemme know what you find out, in the meantime I’ll go into our storage “room” and unbox my green books! :)

Haha I just got out my green books. The thermal time switch is located on the side of the block at the back down by the exhaust manifold. So yep, you replaced the temp gauge sender I believe. And the part you have circled is the idle slide valve that provides faster idle when cold...theoretically! ;)

Found it - Third time lucky. But I'm learning.

And yuko! Going by this I might just have a very poor connection resulting in the CSI randomly working.

That is where the temp gauge sender is on carb b20 cars too

Edit: replied on the previous page. As you were.

Idle slide valves get gummed up routinely though so that is worth pulling out and half filling with carb cleaner then putting fingers over both holes then shaking for 5 odd mins.

Good! Learning is good for the brain...I’m more well-versed with fuel injection, so I’m about to learn something about carburettors when I try and get this 79 244DL going.

That’s a drain for the coolant. I’ve never had much luck with them. Newer red blocks have them too. You can loosen it and put a hose on it and in theory the coolant drains out.

The first image is the temp sensor.
The thermal time switch is in the side. They don't like dirty contacts, but are generally long lived. They contain a basic bi-metal system.

I am delighted to announce the cold start problem is solved.

Degreaser, scrub brush, blast from the hose, contact cleaner, let it dry for a couple of hours, conected it all up and a cold start no probs.

Now to go out and enjoy it!

Yep needs heat shrink to fix that buggered outer sheilding. I'll grab some off the brother this week.

I had to move the 145 last night after sitting for a couple of days unused.. it fired up without any carry-on or hesitation. The car has totally transformed and seems very happy. It's amazing what good electrical connections can do.

Aiming to take it out on Sunday with my good camera and get some nice photos.

Been taking the 145 out for drives here and there lately. It's just wonderful. It gets lots of looks, people like it.

Been starting well.

Isn’t it a wonderful video. It’s the wake up call I needed.

145 safe and dry. Parked it up a while ago as it either needs the trans rebuilt or replaced.

No excuses this year.. must get into it! @Major Ledfoot and @1971_144GL I’m counting on you both to keep on my back about this transmission. I’ll slack off otherwise.
