Hmmm, is it possible to swap over the head, piston and crank to a B230FB block ?
iceton1975
Yes
Vee_Que
Assuming its crank is the same thrust location as your fb motor Which is rear thrust @Calvin. Then you just need to change the rods and pistons to handle boost and get the yoshifab timing belt adaptor kit!

I got a spare B230FB block with a cocked 531 head, so as long as the crank is the same, planning to swap the crank, rods, piston, and head onto the FB, and keep it NA and throw into a 240 with a M46

personally i feel thats a waste of a stroker. unless you decided to go high comp, and really make it sing, with quad throttle bodies and what not. otherwise build what its capable of, BIG POWER
Vee_Que
M46 is a waste for a motor like that.. Besides it will go for more than 350.

Looking up some AQ171 file notes the compression ratio is 9.7:1.
The A171 followed auto year changes so 1988/89 (K- block engine) onwards had 63mm mains with thrust bearing at the back. #5 journal and 88mm stroke.
1985-1988 engines had problems with poor thrust/axial bearing design. Thrust was located at # 3 journal, main bearings where 55mm nominal.

so who ended up with this? only sold for $450 soo so cheap

Me i got it. But the engine was completely siezed. Cylinders full of water and sand.

It may not be a complete loss.
What sort of condition is the head in, especially around #4 inlet and exhaust?
Are the PZ cams okay?
Was it a centre thrust bearing block or a later model block with the trust bearing at the rear?
Dauntless
I'll take some parts or the whole thing if you're interested. PM sent.
mspavo
It's a rear thrust. The crank is in good condition and for the most part the head looks okay, lot of corrosion around Exhaust port on number 4 but I'm getting it welded up as we speak. Ordered forged internals through rsi and sourcing a squirter block too. A lot of parts are pretty much rotten but the basics are okay. If you want anything just let me know what

Going a twin turbo setup with r34 turbos and custom manifold btw. Sequential ignition through haltec and e85
Dauntless
I'll take the PZ cams and crank if they're not being used. PM sent.
Vee_Que
I Think they are being used. Gtr turbos seem a waste of effort vs a gt35r or similar turbo for manifolding. Unless you already have the turbos of course. Any luck ordering parts from RSi? How is thier response time now? They seem to be either great or you never hear from them and they send the wrong parts.
What car is it going in? should make a project thread.
calvintibia001
There are 2 types of R34 GTR Turbos, either the GT2560 or the GT2860RS, but making twin turbo work might be more hassle than a single turbo.
For Quick Spool and awesome power, maybe something like:
Divided T3 GT35R
Undivided T3 Turbo Manifold
T3 Quick Spool Valve

It depends on what I can get my hands on. Are the gt28 the n1 turbos? They are out of the question. I plan on just getting the standard ones and rebuilding them with steel wheels etc. with 1mm oversized Pistons the engine will be roughly 2.6, same as gtr so I'm hoping the lag won't be too extreme with more mid range torque than a big single.
calvintibia001
Well, the GT2560 are tiny, if you want more mid range, go for something like a single BB GT3071R with a .78 Divided Housing, will be way easier to make it work than putting Twins in there.
mspavo
Nah the manifold should be easily done, just run 1and 4 into a turbo and 2 and 3 into the second to get even pulsing, it'll be easy to make two the same length as opposed to 4.
I dunno, it's all up in the air at the moment, won't get a turbo till bottom end is built and mated with the head. A gtx30 would be great too but I like the idea of a twin setup, don't know if I've seen one done?
